Al Jefferson is on $14 million so the C's would need a little over $11 million to make the salaries match.

That would have to Jeff Green + Jermaine O'Neal's expiring contract.

TP.
Jeff Green sign-and-trade for Big Al.  Utah needs a small forward and has too many bigs, and we need a Center.  Not an unreasonable trade.  This might explain the Celtics interest in Grant Hill, Battier, Nachbar etc.
Clippers and Spurs also need a good small forward.  They might be open to a Jeff Green sign-and-trade.

Al can't guard the rotting, fetid corpse of Red Auerbach.

Not just no, but insert your favorite profanity here. NO interest whatsoever in Al Jefferson until he learns to elevate his post defense to just awful.

TP.  Hardly anybody in the league plays like that anymore.  Regardless of his defense, I would LOVE to have a player like that on the Celtics.  I'm so sick of watching this team stagnate for minutes and minutes offensively because they have to settle for jumper after jumper.

I'm not sure you have to give up the Clippers first to net Big Al.

I reckon Big Al's trade value is still pretty low. Similar to last season when all Minnesota could get was a trade exception and two future firsts. I wouldn't be surprised if Danny could net Big Al for a similar offer = Jeff Green + two heavily protected future firsts.

I'd be all for it.  And everyone would be happy, since we essentially would've traded Perk for Big Al.

Building around Rondo and Big Al makes more sense, than Rondo and Jeff Green

As much as I hate to agree with you, as I am very high on Jeff Green and really believe that he deserves a chance with our team, he and JO and Bradley, if necessary (Utah is looking for a backup pg)would work for me. Let's hope that it works for
the Jazz, too.

I'm a BIg Al fan and, for one, I couldn't wait to hear Tommy going cuckoo over someone he was especially fond of.

I think that also gives us a lot of flexibility to extend our window, whether we Bird-right Al or let him expire and use the space.

he's at least as good a defender as Shaq was last year, and this team killed people with shaq in the starting lineup.

good lord yes, considering how much improved our offense was with shaq, i can only imagine the effect of adding al jefferson.

I'd take Big Al for Green and O'Neal.

I'd be interested however it leaves still leaves us short i big and 1 wing.
we'd have 5 players under contract and limited resources to fill out the roster.

would a starting five of rondo, allen, pierce, KG and AJ be good enough to make up for a bargain bin bench?

hypo bench:

delonte / bradley
wafer / moore
grant hill
jjj / wilcox
kwame brown / okur (amnestied)

with that bench, or one like it, we'd be fine.

This team was built on defense...so of course the answer to all of this teams woes is to re-acquire a player who plays probably the worst post defense in the league...makes total sense.

it does, because as others have noted our team was at its best last year with Shaq at center, who at that stage of his career was a horrible defender.

what this team is missing right now is offense.  even with interchangeable parts, they've managed to stay near the top of the league in defense.  its the inconsistent, frequently stagnant, jumpshot-heavy offense and sub-par rebounding that hurts this team more than anything else.  al jefferson would help with both of those problems.
