Bobby Valentine, an analyst for ESPN, will be the next manager of the Boston Red Sox, a source close to the team said Tuesday night.

Valentine was offered the job Tuesday and accepted it. Valentine, who appeared at a charity event in Japan on Monday, is scheduled to fly back home at midnight ET Wednesday.

Earlier Tuesday, a source told ESPN that Gene Lamont, the other finalist for the job, was no longer a candidate.

How long before Lucchino and Valentine, both the "smartest guy in the room" choke each other....literally?

  • Rondo = Good
Seemed like he was going to be the guy ever since he talked with Luccino.

At least it shouldn't be possible to say that there won't be any new attitudes or personalities in the clubhouse.

Valentine strikes me as about as different from Terry Francona as we could find.

Better bring a ring for the Sox next year... Yes ik how hard it is to win a championship, but that's the only way to make up for this, past fall.
