Putting Jefferson on this team for this season without giving up anybody in the starting lineup (obviously shifting JO to the bench and starting Jefferson) would certainly give us a much better shot at winning a title this year.

If we didn't win this year, however, I think our team would be significantly worse off going forward, since neither Rondo nor Jefferson is a franchise player yet they'd account for a large portion of our payroll.
Yeah, this is my take on it as well. The C's need to make moves that make us better today without handicapping our future.
I believe we could trade for Jefferson, have him play a year then amnesty him.

I know we all have love for Big Al and I am still a fan, but I am a little surprised more people wouldn't rather have Millsap. He seems like a more complete player at this stage of their careers and would offer more off the bench than Big Al - unless we are strictly looking at C eligible players.

And, as others have said, if Howard actually does want to come here next year, we use amnesty on which ever one we traded for. If not, we keep him and let him be productive.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I like the idea of Big Al getting 30 minutes a night on the C's in the 4/5 role with KG and JO next season.

I don't like the idea of having his 15mil cap figure on the books next season though. 2012 is a big huge year for the Celtics, and they can't afford Al's cap figure if they think they can land Howard.

Personally I would prefer Big Al primarily because he's bigger, can play center, and I believe he's a better inside scorer.  I've felt for a while now that the biggest thing that the Celtics are missing is an inside scoring presence.

As for amnesty, could somebody clarify -- does the amnesty rule allow you to trade for a player, have him on your roster for a year, and then amnesty him, clearing cap space for the free agency period following that season?

Al sucks and he will never be an impact player on a championship team, unless he is a bench player.

The end.

Sign me up.  I'd love to have Big Al back here, even though this takes us out of the running for Howard.

I think it's just too hard to build a championship team around Big Al's defense.

My take on Al at this point in his career;
he is going to be traded out of utah because he isn't that good
great low post moves, he'd be so much better if he learned to kick it out, he is not a good passer
lazy mixed with bad defense
not a physical center
overpaid

I can't see him in green, danny did a great job on the trade
