Hey, there's still games on! Tonight:

Duke-Mich St
Kansas-Kentucky
Ohio St-Florida
Syracuse-Albany (ok maybe I'm the only one who cares about that one)

And a full season that will be played as scheduled!  It's a pretty big luxury these days.  Hooray basketball!

Mehhh.

I wish I could afford to go to the Duke game when they come to BC.  Unfortunately I don't have a couple hundred bucks to burn.

I am going to watch a bit of this Kansas-Kentucky game.

This will be my first sight of Anthony Davis. Excited. Also, I want to see what type of progress Terrance Jones has made.

Kansas Jayhawks stink this year. There are too many former Jayhawk players chasing NBA paychecks that are no longer there because Dictator Stern, Democrat Billy Hunter, and Republicans Dan Gilbert and Robert Sarver think is cool to act the US government and get nothing done. Meanwhile Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Kobe Bryant are polishing their resumes as lobbyists.

Seriously back to college basketball, I think Wichita State has a chance to be the best Kansas team (ie go furhtest in the tournament) this year as most of their NIT winning team is returning.... Kansas showed very little after taking a quick lead on Kentucky last night. They look vulnerable in a watered down Big 12.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

Watch out for that first sight of Davis -- his ugliness might shock you a little.  Might want to have a drink or two beforehand.

That kid is good, but boy is he ugly.  He may go #1 in the next draft, and he may be a star, but I don't know how he'll ever be a guy you want to see in highlight reels.  Heh.

Anybody seen Austin Rivers playing?  Seems like he a had a decent game against Michigan State, but not so much yesterday.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I watched the crap outta that duke game last night. Austin Rivers is the troof.

But, in all seriousness, it was refreshing to see a competitive game on TV.

Anthony Davis is a little raw but he's an absolute beast - it takes a lot to stand out athletically on that Kentucky team but he does it.  When he gets a little more control of himself he's going to be tough to contain on either end.

Yeah, I saw a bit of the game.  Caught Davis finishing a nice angled floater in traffic and also mega-swatting a few shots into the stands.  Bat-boy's got some real game.

Regarding the swats, though, I really wish somebody would teach these kids how to block in a fundamental, efficient way instead of allowing them to volleyball the orange into the stands every time like Dwight Howard.

Dwight Howard's style might be more impressive, but doing it like Tim Duncan or Bill Russell (tipping it to teammates) is far more useful / effective.

I really have a hard time watching college basketball for anything beyond gambling reasons.

Really impressed with Davis - I'll be surprised if he doesn't go first overall. Needs to get rid of that unibrow though.

On the other hand, anyone else watch Drummond play? If I didn't know he was supposed to be the next big thing I would've mistaken him for just another ordinary fill-in college center... He's looked super passive and seems to have a very poor understanding of playing in the post.

I'm a Buckeye and Bearcat fan, both ranked and both won and living in Cincinnati I get a good deal of Muskateer talk as well.  Nice to be in Ohio at the moment with all the quality basketball around.

Sullinger also looks like a much better pro prospect (i.e. a higher ceiling with room to grow still) then he did last year.  He dropped a bunch of fat and added a lot of muscle and was unguardable with the ball in the post (buckeyes didn't get him the ball enough) against a very good Florida team.  He still has some size limitations, but he will be a very good pro with decent upside and will be a very high pick (top 5).
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Caught a couple of Cuse games this weekend - some thoughts on their guys:

- Fab Melo has gone from "this guy has no business on a major-college team" to "I could see him being a mediocre NBA center someday" this year.

- Kris Joseph on the other hand...he's likely to be a 1st round pick, but I'm not sure if he's elite enough in any area to do much in the league.

- Dion Waiters could be very good, but still has some developing to do.  Consistency and focus seem to be issues but he's got a lot of ability.

What a week for college basketball and weekend for college sports in general.

If anyone happens to see Indiana play anytime soon, keep an eye on Victor Oladipo (#4).  I've never seen a player remind me so much of a young Tony Allen.  Dude will do this one play:

Then trip over his own shoelaces or dribble off his knee the next.  Trick or treat!
