RECORD SETTING PACE

Five games into the season, a number of Patriots players are on pace for record-breaking seasons. While we know these won't be realistic projections, it is fun to look at what the numbers would be if they continued at this pace:

TOM BRADY

* Tom Brady (1,874) is on pace to throw for 5,997 yards. Only two NFL players have thrown for 5,000 or more yards in a season with Dan Marino's NFL record 5,084 in 1984 and Drew Brees' 5,069 in 2008.

* Brady has 14 touchdowns, putting him on pace for 45 touchdown passes, which would be his second season with 40 or more touchdowns. He had an NFL-record 50 touchdowns in 2007.

* Brady currently has an NFL record of 30 straight wins as a starter in the regular season at home. The last time the Patriots lost a regular season home game which Brady started was on Nov. 12, 2006 against the New York Jets.

* Brady has a current streak of 21 straight games with at least one touchdown pass, a Patriots team record.

* Brady has 115 wins as a starter and needs two more wins to tie Joe Montana (117) for 7th all-time.

JULIAN EDELMAN

* Julian Edelman has the highest punt return average in Patriots history with a 13.6-yard average (36-489).

BENJARVUS GREEN-ELLIS

* BenJarvus Green-Ellis has 18 touchdown runs since the beginning of the 2010 season, the most in the NFL. Houston's Arian Foster is second with 17.

ROB GRONKOWSKI

* Rob has five touchdowns so far in 2011, putting him on pace for 16 for the year. The NFL record for most touchdowns in a season by a tight end is 13 by Vernon Davis (SF) in 2009 and Antonio Gates (SD) in 2004. Gronkowski last season set the franchise record for touchdowns by a rookie tight end with 10.

* Gronkowski has 15 touchdown catches in 21 career NFL games.

WES WELKER

* Wes Welker has 45 receptions through four weeks and is on pace for 144, which would break Marvin Harrison's single season record of 143, set in 2002.

* Welker has 740 receiving yards and is on pace for 2,368, which would break Jerry Rice's record of 1,848 set in 1995.

* Wes Welker had a career-high 217 receiving yards to set a franchise record (09/25/11) at Buffalo, breaking the previous record set by Terry Glenn with 214 receiving yards.

* Welker has a streak of 66 straight regular season games with at least one reception as a member of the Patriots to extend a franchise record. TE Ben Coates held the previous mark with 63 straight games.

* Welker has caught at least one pass in 83 straight regular season games in his NFL career.

* Welker is tied with six other NFL players as the only players in NFL history to have at least eight receptions, 150 yards and at least one touchdown three times in a single season.

VINCE WILFORK

* Vince Wilfork has two interceptions so far in 2011 and is one of four Patriots defensive lineman to ever register two career interceptions. Anthony Pleasant (2001) is the only other Patriots defensive lineman to record two interceptions in a single season.

THE TEAM

* The Patriots currently have 165 points and are on pace to finish with 528 points, which would be second in team history and fifth all-time in NFL history. The 2007 Patriots have the record with 587.

* The Patriots are averaging 33.0 points per game in 2011. That number would be second all-time in team history. In 2007, the Patriots averaged 36.8 points per game.

* The Patriots have scored 30 or more points in 13 straight games. The NFL record is 14 by St. Louis (1999-2000).

A big TP for the effort.
This will be a tough game for the Pats (coming off an "emotional" game against the Jets, not having the luxury of the bye like Dallas, battling injuries), but I'm looking forward to it.

I think the Pats offense will give that Cowboys secondary some problems.  Should be a high scoring affair.

The matchups I'll be interested in is how the Pats D plays Witten & Bryant.  Witten looks like a mismatch right now although the Pats did do well taking out Antonio Gates in the SD game week 2. Pats CBs have strugggled against big WR this season (Marshall, Jackson) and Bryant is another one that could give them fits.

I'd like to see the Pats continue to develop that running game with the Law Firm & friends.  Eating up the clock keeps the D off the field and that could only benefit that guys on the other side of the ball.

Good points.

On Law Firm, apparently he has an issue with his toe, and did not participate in practice. Not a good sign.

Well, they have Ridley and the kid has certainly shown he can play at this level.  It sounds like Woodhead is back practicing which is good, I think a platoon of Ridley/Woodhead could do alright.

I work within the stadium during the week and I myself am a pats fan but I have to admit there is so much homer-ism going around right now with the pats. Ive heard it all throughout the week down there in Foxboro Im getting a little annoyed with it to be honest.  This defense is horrendous  more specifically their pass defense.  Barrett? Brown? matched up against Dez, Witten, and Austin?   They are going to be salivating at the sight of the Pats defense.  Secondly I consistantly hear the misconception that the pats offense should run circles around dallas. Look up the stats, the Cowboys Defense is ranked within the top 5 in both points against and points scored on defense.   They are far from the slouches that we portray them as. Dallas wins in a route 37-17.  The letdown factor is in order after a big Jets win and Dallas coming off a bye. Team gets too complacent when they do anything worth mentioning and they will just assume they can roll in and beat Dallas this week. Aint happening mark my words

I dont see the pats getting blown out....I think theyll be able to put up 30pts again...This offense is proving that they can put up 30pts whether its pass heavy, run heavy, balanced etc. even in the loss to hte bills they were able to put up 31pts with brady throwing 4interceptions! and they have 37pts last week if Hernandez doesnt tip that pass his way

its up to the defense to keep the cowboys under 30pts..I thought they showed some improvements last week in getting off the field after 3rd down.

I expect the pats to air it out alot more this week considering how good Dallas' run defense is. this is going to be a big test for them thus far

Brady didn't come across as complacent last week follwing the Jets game.  If anything, he seemed peeved as hell and that came after a "W".  I don't expect the Pats to be flat on this one.  I think the Buffalo game taught them a thing or two about complacency (and I'm not even sure that complacency was the issue in that one).

I think most people realize that this is not going to be an easy game.

Yeah I actually saw him in the game today. He is wearing Sammy Morris' old number.

I'll take the W, even if it was ugly.

an ugly win, but what a showing by the defense! this is the kind of win that builds character and something they can build upon...they made some nice stops when they had to which allowed them to win even with the offense giving up 4 turnovers...belichick had to be pretty confident in them to put them out there with something like 4minutes to go.

that last 2minute drive was beautiful as well.

the season is half over and honestly, im having a hard time thinking that Ochocinco will finally just click and start producing..with rumors that the pats entertained the idea of a trade for Brandon Lloyd they might feel the same..

Nice to see the D deliver a win for the Pats (though obviously Brady's heroics at the end can't go unrecognized).  Any time you turn the ball over 5 times and win, you have to thank your D.
Yup

Time to see if we can trade Ocho - what's his name for a conditional 7th round pick in 2 years and bring in someone who can maybe help.
