The Patriots own a 49-15 (.766) record in regular season AFC East games since the beginning of the 2001 season, compiling the best intra-division record of any team in the NFL.

The Patriots will support the NFL's Breast Cancer Awareness initiatives this month by featuring players wearing pink apparel in two games in 2011, beginning last week at Oakland and then at home against Dallas on Oct. 16

RECORD SETTING PACE

A quarter of the way through the season, a number of Patriots players are on pace for record-breaking seasons. While we know these won't be realistic projections, it is fun to look at what the numbers would be if they continued at this pace.

TOM BRADY

* Tom Brady (1,553) is on pace to throw for 6,212 yards. Only two NFL players have thrown for 5,000 or more yards in a season with Dan Marino's NFL record 5,804 in 1984 and Drew Brees' 5,069 in 2008.

* Brady has 13 touchdowns, putting him on pace for 52 touchdown passes, which would break the NFL record of 50 that he had in 2007.

* Brady currently has an NFL record of 29 straight wins as a starter in the regular season at home. The last time the Patriots lost a regular season home game which Brady started was on Nov. 12, 2006 against the New York Jets.

* Brady has a current streak of 20 straight games with at least one touchdown pass, a Patriots team record. Brady has thrown two or more touchdowns in 13 straight games to tie an NFL record with Peyton Manning.

JULIAN EDELMAN

* Julian Edelman has the highest punt return average in Patriots history with a 13.6-yard average (36-489).

ROB GRONKOWSKI

* Rob Gronkowski has five touchdowns so far in 2011, putting him on pace for 20 for the year. The NFL record for most touchdowns in a season by a tight end is 13 by Vernon Davis (SF) in 2009 and Antonio Gates (SD) in 2004. Gronkowski last season set the franchise record for touchdowns by a rookie tight end with 10.

* Gronkowski has 15 touchdown catches in 20 career NFL games.

WES WELKER

* Wes Welker has 40 receptions through four weeks and is on pace for 160, which would break Marvin Harrison's single season record of 143, set in 2002. Welker has 616 receiving yards and is on pace for 2,464, which would break Jerry Rice's record of 1,848 set in 1995.

* Wes Welker had a career-high 217 receiving yards to set a franchise record (09/25/11), breaking the previous record set by Terry Glenn with 214 receiving yards.

* Welker has a streak of 65 straight regular season games with at least one reception as a member of the Patriots to set a franchise record. TE Ben Coates held the previous mark with 63 straight games.

* Welker has caught at least one pass in 82 straight regular season games in his NFL career.

DREW BLEDSOE AND JON MORRIS INTO PATRIOTS HALL

Drew Bledsoe and Jon Morris are the 2011 honorees that were inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame. Bledsoe and Morris were inducted in a public ceremony outside The Hall at Patriot Place presented by Raytheon at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17. The event was free to the public and Patriots fans were encouraged to attend.

Bledsoe was voted by the fans as the 17th player and 18th member to enter the Patriots Hall of Fame. Since the new process for induction was instituted in 2007, Bledsoe earned the highest percentage of votes for any candidate and becomes the first player to be selected by the fans into the Patriots Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.

Morris was selected by a 10-person senior selection committee. The selection was made on Friday, March 25 and affirmed with a phone call from Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft, who notified Morris of his induction later that afternoon.

PATRIOTS DEDICATE 2011 SEASON TO MYRA KRAFT

The New England Patriots announced that they will dedicate the 2011 season to the loving memory of Myra Kraft, who passed away on July 20 after a courageous battle with cancer. Every Patriots player and coach will honor Myra‘s memory by wearing a patch with her initials on it in recognition of her lifelong contributions to the local and global community and her influence on the charitable mission of the entire Patriots organization. The patch will be worn on the left chest of every player throughout the season.

PEYTON & ELI'S KIND GESTURE TO KRAFT

In his NFL Notes column on Sunday, September 4, Greg A. Bedard of the Boston Globe notes the kind gesture of Colts quarterback Peyton Manning and Giants quarterback Eli Manning. Both made what owner Robert Kraft called "substantial donations" to the Myra Kraft Giving Back Fund.

"We lost our ability to win Super Bowls back-to-back years to Manning brothers, and then to see each of them send very generous checks to this fund . . . and Peyton wrote me a beautiful note,"  Kraft tells Bedard. "They’re sort of two people that broke my heart on the field in back-to-back years, and then they warm my heart with generous donations. It’s something special about this NFL and the great people associated with it.

"It’s sort of the great part of football, the fact that it’s a team sport and you have all these rivalries but they together - with people like Matt Cassel and Junior Seau and Tom Brady and just a ton of guys - have made contributions, dozens of Patriots players, that are going to allow us to keep the spirit of Myra’s giving back to the community live for generations to come."

** This is kind of a new thing for me and a work-in-progress, so feel free to PM me with any suggestions or ideas for improvement of the game threads, as I will be doing this throughout the season, and want to make it as user-friendly as possible. Thanks! **

Cromartie came out yesterday and basically dared Brady to throw to the guy he is covering.... I dare Cromartie to pay child support.

Is it just me or does anyone else out there get nervous whenever the Pats put on those old school uniforms? I love them, but it freaks me out every single time. I hope they wear them in the Super Bowl, but not a lot of other times. Or change back to them. But give me closure on these things.

Haha. Nice one.
That, Mr. Cromartie, is what is known as a ZINGER!
Or, since the game will be played in Foxboro, a ZINGAH!

I'm looking forward to this game. I'm hoping for a lot of payback for the playoffs loss last season.
Celtics fan for life.

I want retribution for last year's fiasco ... I hope the boys are "on" for this one.

Injuries plaguing us, and Mayo's loss is the worst, but the defense wasn't bad last week. They still have yet to get consistent pressure on any QB, but I think Bill will remedy that, (if possible).

I loved the balance of run game/pass game that we had last week ... more of that, (and more Wes Welker heroics ... love that little guy).

Should be a good one ... especially at home.

Looking forward to the Lions pounding the Bears tonight as well ... really pulling for that team this year ... they're a lot of fun to watch.

Al Davis, RIP.

I'm much happier with the Pats' defense to this point ... much tighter and showing the Jets very little blue sky.

Bahku -- thanks for these threads.  I do read your previews (excellent) and I keep an eye on the thread.  Unfortunately, not much action on these threads,  but I encourage you to keep it up -- I know there are lots of Pats/NFL fans in this community.

Good game for the defense so far -- though I think the Jets were stunned last week and probably are void of confidence right now.  But it's nice to see a short-handed Pats defense handling things to this point.  Stopping the run well, and actually getting some pressure on the QB.

These are the kinds of plays that kill me ... perfectly thrown pass, easy catch, should've been seven, but because Hernandez bobbles it, Brady ends up getting his first red-zone pick at home ... ever. That's the kind of thing that makes a QB not want to throw to that player again ... painful, man.

If Branch has a knee down and the Jet just touches him - isn't he down at that moment?  If so, I think it gets overturned.

Yup, that was the right call, and a huge challenge reversal ... thank goodness that Welker play wasn't for nothing.

  • Rondo = Good
This Patriots team is going to continue to stumble and struggle when it matters most until they have an above average defense again.

I have very little confidence in them against teams that know how to play tough, grind-it-out defensive football (e.g. playoff style).  They may have one of if not THE top offense in the league, but their defense is one of the most feeble.  Ho hum.

Jets looking like they're going to win this one, in my opinion.  I'm sensing that this is another year when the Jets have an uglier regular season but have more post-season success than the Patriots.
Never forget the Champs of '08, or the gutsy warriors of '10.
