Jacoby Ellsbury won another game with another walk off hit and RBI, a homer tonight. Should people start looking at him as an MVP candidate?

He's a leadoff hitter and currently sits in the following places with his stats:

6th in batting average
15th in on base percentage
10th in slugging percentage
9th in on base slugging percentage
4th in stolen bases
14th in home runs
14th in runs batted in
5th in doubles
3rd in hits
2nd in runs
2nd in total bases
1st in fielding percentage amongst outfielders
3rd amongst range factor in CFs
1st in least errors committed amongst outfielders
1st amongst put outs by CFs
2nd amongst total chances by CFs

Ellsbury has been the catalyst that drives this Red Sox team, getting on base, stealing bases, scoring runs, driving in runs from the top of the order, hitting homeruns, and playing a Golden Glove caliber center field.

Now given, Adrian Gonzalez is probably the AL MVP, but can Ellsbury really be considered that far behind him in importance to his team and overall MVP of the league?

Nick, I just brought this up to my dad last night!  It's unfortunate for him that he's on the same team as Adrian, otherwise he would be held in much higher consideration.  But I think he absolutely still needs to be in the discussion.  The number of runs he's driven in from the leadoff spot is amazing.

Come on what? His OBS is unreal for a leadoff hitter and his clutch performances and what he does from the leadoff position for this team is fabulous.

I admit that with AGon in the picture there's no way he wins it but given what he has done as compared to power hitters, RBI guys, and the superstars of the league, him having the numbers he has with the 7-8-9 hitters the Red Sox have is just an unbelievable accomplishment and I think it needs consideration for MVP status.

As much as Ellsbury has been doing for the Sox, I still think Pedroia has been more valuable, and nobody has been more valuable to any AL team than Adrian Gonzalez.

I prefer Ells to Granderson, but isnt granderson having an even better year?  at least from a power perspective, (but he plays on the whiffleball field known as Yankee stadium)

How much would you pay to keep Jacoby?  He is making 3.5 Mil this year then has 2 more years of abritation I believe.  Something tells me he won't accept a team friendly deal that we have with Lester and Pedroia for 6, 7 mil a year.

Considered?  Sure.

Will he win it?  No.

He is having a heckuva season, though and I don't think its a problem having his name thrown into the discussion.  It'd be justified in my eyes.

It's a tough call. I agree that he won't be taking an early, team friendly deal.  He is likely going to get close to free agency before even considering a deal.  So, I want to see what he does next year before putting a price on him.

I would agree about Pedroia being more valuable this season than Ellsbury (and likely Gonzalez for that matter).

Given that Gonzalez ranks third on his team in wins above replacement, and Jose Bautista has been significantly better at the plate in virtually every meaningful regard, I wouldn't be in a rush to rank Gonzalez as the AL's most valuable player this season - which is no knock to the fact that he has been terrific.  Bautista has simply been in another world.

No. Nobody on the R-- --x should be considered MVP. they all need to be fired or traded for bags of SWA peanuts

Can't call a player an MVP if his team doesn't make the playoffs, in my opinion.

Give it to Verlander.

Yes, just as he probably should have been MVP of the 07 World Series.
