Quote
When the NBA offseason begins following resolution of their collective bargaining agreement, the 76ers will be interested in trading Marreese Speights.

Speights hasn't meshed well within the style of Doug Collins.

If the team can trade Speights, they would like to use their free agent money to sign a solid, power big to start at center.

Spencer Hawes, who will be a restricted free agent, is considered a backup.

I know the guy isn't really a defender, but the kid definitely has an offensive game . I think he could at least fill Kristic's role as an offensive big man when the c's need more scoring from bigs. He can space the floor .

would the tpe from daniels be able to land speights here since 76'ers would be using the money they save on speights for another free agent ?

I want Arron Gray or Kwame in front of him for next year, but I think Speights is a solid 3rd string center  , at least as good as sheldon williams.

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.
I like Speights as a player, and he would be a good mesh with Rondo in the future. I agree with you on putting him in the 3rd string -

_________(defensive minded center), Jermaine, Speights

That sounds really good center-wise. He can play both the 4 and 5, and can somewhat stretch the floor. Speights would play improved D thanks to KG. But finding a Defensive center is our top priority right now. Once we find a Perkins type player, Speights would be on the top 5 of my list if Ainge were to search for more bigs.
I like Marcus Smart

Negative on another perkins. Would be smashing if we could get a center that could actually score the ball and give us some easy hoops. Defensive structures are far more easily taught than offensive touch.

He's not worth whatever we'd have to give up to get him.

This kid has put up some very good scoring and rebounding numbers in limited minutes. He's worth a look, and we have room on the roster.

I don't see Philly giving him up for nothing, but I can see us getting him for a late 1st/early 2nd round pick.

I'd gladly give up Glen Davis to get him  ;)

I think some of you guys are underselling Speights saying hopefully he can be Sheldon Williams and saying he has no offensive game??? wow I would love to trade for him he's athletic can shoot the midrange jumper and can rebouund. S &T for big baby would be perfect

But that's my point . . . wouldn't make any sense for Philly to do that deal.  We'd have to give up more than we'd be willing to give up.

Well, Shelden Williams was athletic and could shoot the midrange jumper (and had good rebounding numbers in limited minutes). Too bad he just couldn't play.
