Here's the proposed trade:
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=3uvoynh

Jameer Nelson + Brandon Bass for Josh Smith.
The money works out nearly perfectly.

Why Orlando does the deal:
This finally gives Dwight Howard top notch front line help.  And increases the Magic's defensive ability near the basket.  You think it was hard to score on the magic before?  Add a top notch defender like Josh Smith and the Magic will smother the defensive paint.

Moving Nelson, also opens up minutes for Agent Zero to take over at the PG position.  The Magic starting lineup will then be Arenas-Richardson-Turkoglu-Smith-Howard.

Why Atlanta does the deal:
Atlanta gains a true PG in Jameer Nelson and trades away problem child Josh Smith.  They also get a decent although lower level replacement in Brandon Bass for PF.  The addition of Nelson also means they can turn around and trade the expiring 9.1m contract of Hinrich for more help at the TDL.  The Hawks gain the ability to shed salary, upgrade their PG position, and a downgrade at PF while getting rid of a player who wants out of Atlanta.

New projected Atlanta lineup:
Nelson-Johnson-Williams-Bass-Horford

Getting Nelson means that not only do the Hawks get a true PG, they can also trade Hinrich's expiring for big man help at the trade deadline.  That 9.1m should be VERY attractive to some team who would want to open up cap room for the 2012 FA class.  For the Hawks this would be a classic case of addition by subtraction.

How abou this trade ? http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=3n5xl49

Orlando loses bench frontcourt help and have to rely on Earl Clark and Daniel Orton but get Dwight his best buddy. Orlando would do this though.

Kaman,Nelson,Anderson is a very good deal for the Hawks, they swap point guards with Magic and they have 2 large expirings worth close to 16 million with Kaman's trade kicker.

Clippers get a starting SF as the Iguodala deal seems to be dead and a real PF to backup Blake Griffin, and could play Gomes as a SF off the bench.

Twolves get another PG in Duhon to backup Rubio,Ridnour.

clippers can get a better deal for kaman. with the shortage on centers teams will overpay.

Atlanta does not need to trade Josh Smith and Jameer Nelson for him is a joke.

They should call Cleveland and offer Marvin Williams / Kirk Hinrich for Baron Davis / JJ Hickson.

I think that trade could work well for both teams.  It would help in the Cavs rebuilding process and make the Hawks a stronger team.

If Orlando still had Gortat to give to the Hawks as well, they could swing a trade for Josh Smith.  Unfortunately for them, they traded Gortat for two players they didn't need in Richardson and Turkoglu.  Oops!

How about Cleveland?

Williams and Smith

for

Varejao, Hickson, and Erden

You just do it as two separate trades Smith for 2nd round pick and use James trade exception (giving Atlanta an 11+ million exception for themselves to use) and then Varejao, Hickson, and Erden for Williams.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip
