Jeremy Evans, Patrick Mills, Mike Taylor, Herbert Hill, Ejike Ugboaja, Lawrence Roberts, Rickey Paulding, Nedzad Sinanovic, Tamar Slay, Kenny Saterfield were the last 10 players drafted #55 overall.  Of the 60 players drafted #55 or later in the last 10 years, only Marcin Gortat, Amir Johnson, Ramon Sessions, and Luis Scola have been real rotational players.

I don't expect Matt Howard to have a long nor very productive NBA career.

But one thing you can't question are the intangibles this guy immediately brings to the table.  You know he's going to bring hustle and effort every day and he was one of the leaders to a Butler team that won when it counted often.

With the 55th overall pick (2nd round) is this guy worth taking?  There have been pretty unathletic players before him like Harangody and Scalabrine that have fared better in the NBA than one would initially think.  I think Howard's intangibles could be something that a contending team could use more than some project with a 7% chance of ever even breaking into a rotation in his entire career.

I'm not sure if I follow your post completely.  There were plenty of good players picked after #25.  I know your list of picks over 25 is missing Paul Milsap and David Lee; and I'm sure there are at least a few more good ones.

I meant #55 overall, which is #25 in the second round.  Sorry, I just edited the OP to clarify.

Ah gotcha; well in that case you can expect Semih Erden type prospects  ;D

Getting a decent rotation player at 25 in the first round is difficult enough.  I wouldn't hold out too much hope for 25 in the second round.

I agree completely.  That's why I'm wondering what people think about Matt Howard

love him. he plays hard and gritty but also plays smart and stresses fundamentals. Hard to find a player like that. Sure, he's undersized but so was Leon Powe, and so is Big Baby.

I think if Howard is drafted into the right system (if drafted at all) he could break through and become a rotation player.

If he's still on the board when the celts pick 55th, he'll be the guy i want picked.

I think taking Matt Howard would be fine so long as Danny doesn't trade up to get Vucevic.
We all think we know more than we really do....

I wouldn't draft him, I think there's going to be more gifted physical players at that point.  I would however invite him to camp.  Someone like David Lighty or E'Twaun Moore has a better chance of being an NBA player than Howard.
do it

Looks like Howard went undrafted... wonder what'll happen to him.

I love him too. He's going to be a great player in Europe. There are already a few teams competing for his services. I think he can have a Trajan Langdon type of career.
