Yes, this is a recent quote. I think the irony of who's saying this is pretty amusing.

Stating the obvious.

I don't think Amare is nearly as soft as Gasol.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Amar'e can be as tough as he pleases. Gasol is still a much better player.

lol, he is soft, but even being soft he is still 5 times the player Amare is.

Love when a guy who's team is playing sub .500 basketball talks smack about the best team in the league :P
Andy Bernard doesnt lose constests. He wins them, or he quits them because they're unfair.

The NBA is a weird place! How can a man that plays 0 defense call a 2 time champion soft?

Nicely done, Bynum.

Do people really consider Gasol a "much" better player than Amare?  Why?

Seriously...Amare has all the tools in the world not to be soft, but he still doesn't play much D. He is the softest strong/muscular guy in the NBA.

Pau isn't as 'athletic', but he is certainly more skilled and consistent.

Exactly my point. Its crazy how overrated gasol's gotten since gettin with kobe. Not that he's not good, but people had no idea who gasol with before 08.

This is the "Pau is soft" quote that I like:

Quote
"I don’t like Pau Gasol or Phil Jackson," Perkins said. "Phil is arrogant. Pau is soft. Kobe tries to bring out his toughness, but he’s still soft.”

Link.

What people are those, exactly?

In terms of Pau's skills, he's 6th in the NBA in rebounding, 13th in blocks, and 21st in the NBA in scoring (and among those in the top-21, he has the second highest FG%).  The only player equal or better in those areas is Dwight Howard.

Gasol is the best big man in the game...more skills than Howard.

Toughness complements talent well, but can't replace it.

Think the Magic would be better with Gasol than Howard? I don't.
