Wow. That R Kelley version was really really good. Granted I don't have an ounce of soul or pigment whatsoever so it sorta washed over my back, but that doesn't mean I can't recognize its greatness.

It's just that I can't give it to a guy that ....uh...you know what he did.

I remember back in the late 60's and early 70's there was a very serious movement to make "For What It's Worth" by the Buffalo Springfield the national anthem.

I've always kind of liked the Star Spangled Banner and don't see any need to change it.

Since the Star Spangled Banner is the clear winner maybe we gotta start discussing which version was best.

I'll go with the James Earl Jones one over James Taylor and Steven Tyler

There are two definitive versions, and only two:

Marvin Gaye at the '83 All-Star Game
Whitney Houston at the '91 Super Bowl

Didn't Hanson do Mmmbob version of the national anthem once?  I can't find it on youtube, but I'm sure it blows all those other versions away  :P

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

The Team America theme song.  I'd post it here but I feel like that wouldn't end well.
That would be my second choice after the current anthem.

Smokey Robinson did a Star Spangled Banner/America the Beautiful medley at a World Series game in Fenway (can't recall the year but seems it may have been '86).  I think he decided to shift to America the Beautiful to avoid the range needed for the SSB.  The result, at least as memory serves, was inspirational.

Neuroticguy, I just looked it upon YouTube and you are right...even now it is inspirational.  And the crowd stayed silent until the end.

To me, (either b4 crack or just starting [age too]), Whitney Houston version cannot be touched... she did that!

I think "God Bless America" is a better song but I can't really complain about the "Star Spangled Banner".
