MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Grizzlies teammates O.J. Mayo and Tony Allen were involved in a fight with each other on the flight home from Los Angeles after Sunday night's win over the Lakers, three different sources have told CBSSports.com. Two of those sources said the altercation left Mayo with a noticeably "swollen" face.

Mayo did not play in Tuesday night's 110-105 win over Oklahoma City.

Grizzlies officials announced before tipoff that Mayo was not at FedExForum and that he would not participate in the game because of "bronchitis."

CBSSports.com's attempts to reach general manager Chris Wallace and media relations director Dustin Krugel for further comment late Tuesday were not immediately successful. It's unclear whether the Grizzlies reported the altercation to NBA security, which the league requires. CBSSports.com's attempts to reach NBA officials for comment late Tuesday were not immediately successful.

so the dumb-dumb dropped his DumDums on Mayo's face...

dummy!

Any chance Wallace sees this as a reason to trade Mayo and keep Tony as they franchise SG for the future? ;)
Can't stop, Rondo!

I don't think its a big deal. But i did notice Mayo MIA tonight, And Tony starting. In Fact, Tony Allen had his best game as a Grizzly. Made a couple of clutch 3pointers in the 4th (Yes, Tony made two clutch 3pointers), and put the game away with Free Throws to win it.

Quote
Mayo owed Allen money from a card game, “Boo-Ray,” and sources said Mayo became increasingly belligerent and antagonistic toward Allen when asked to settle the debt. Sources said Allen walked away from Mayo to go the restroom and returned to find Mayo continuing to berate him. Eventually, Mayo inched close to Allen, and sources said Allen hit Mayo.

“Tony warned [Mayo] to watch his mouth, and [Mayo] wouldn’t do it and just kept going off on him,” a source with knowledge of the incident told Yahoo! Sports.

Several players eventually interceded between the teammates, sources said. Mayo and Allen were brought into meet with Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins on Monday, and sources said the organization believed Mayo played the bigger part in escalating the encounter.

TP to Tony for kicking some butt and then in Mayo's place putting up 19 points, 3 steals, a couple huge blocks, a couple clutch FTs, a couple 3 pointers?!, and 1 TO?!
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Say what ya want about Tony Allen, but you pit that guy in a ring against just about any 2 guard in the ring and I'll take Tony.

As far as Mayo's future on the Griz..he seems like a proud dude. First he got demote, for Henry then Allen, now he gets "lumped up" (TP's for the title) by the guy he probably thinks should be his backup, and held out of the next game?

Mayo's gone.

Guess it was all about a card game:

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Yahoo! Sports is reporting that Grizzlies guards O.J. Mayo and Tony Allen got into a fight on the team's charter flight Monday after a card game.

According to the report, which cited unidentified sources, Mayo owed Allen money following the game and became increasingly angry toward Allen when asked to settle the debt. Several players eventually had to separate the teammates.

Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace acknowledged the altercation in an e-mailed statement but provided no details about what caused the skirmish. He said: "The club considers the matter closed and will not comment further."

Allen had 19 points in the Grizzlies' 110-105 victory over Oklahoma City on Tuesday night. Mayo missed the game with bronchitis.

No we don't. He had a nice run with the Cs but we don't need him this season. Especially if he's gonna lump up our guys.

I'm glad to hear that it wasn't entirely Tony's fault.

No, but maybe a Nate/OJ emergency swap would now interest memphis. Buy low, rehab the attitude under Doc & Vets.

Glad to hear that Mayo is getting most of the blame for this, and I wish the best to Tony in the future.

Before any more people hop on a high horse about fighting, let's not forget that our very own BBD got in a fight and sat out several weeks.

I said Tony was going to be good.  Tony is going into his prime years, when players play their best.  We are going to miss out on it for a measley $3 million!

What is with NBA altercations and card games.  That's what happened with Gilbert.

Glad Tony's not here though if he's getting into problems like this.
