let me preface this buy saying im not sure how this type of deal works.

Miami trades whatever draft picks they are still able to trade and the max cash amount to Minnesota for the rights to Ricky Rubio. again i dont know how salary works when trading for the rights to a player but Miami could add in Arroyo/House/Stackhouse/J.Jones if needed.

Miami probably has to wait until the off season to sign Rubio(again not sure on that) but they get a very good young PG and still have the full mid level to go after a C.

so is this possible?

I have trouble believing that any team is going to help Miami out.  It'd be one thing if Miami had something to offer, but I don't think cash and bad picks is going to do anything.

I think there only real hope is the MLE over the next two years.  The question is, of course, whether there will be a MLE next year after the new CBE.  It's quite possible that Miami may be relatively locked in.

If I'm not mistaken, Miami gave up their first round picks in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2015 to get LBJ and Bosh. Minny can surely get a better deal than a 2016 1st round pick and a pity fill-in of Arroyo/House/Chalmers/Stackhouse/Jones for Rubio's rights.

With that said, I do think Minny will deal Rubio's rights contrary to what they claim if they get a tempting package. But I don't see a gift-deal being done with the Heat. I think the Heat are gonna target a center this offseason, anyway. If they have an interior defensive presence, that can help out with PG penetration and protect the rim.

Here's a frightening thought - the Heat offer their MLE to Perk this offseason and he accepts. I just threw up in my mouth a little.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

I was just thinking that (about Perk); however, I don't think there's any way that Danny doesn't match a MLE offer (if there even is a MLE next summer).

And I don't see Perk leaving unless someone gives him more money that the C's offer.   He likes it here and he doesn't need to go championship chasing; he already has one (and hopefully soon another).

A good PG won't help this mess.  The messiah is the PG, SG, SF, PF, and C offensively.

You could bring any PG you want to this trainwreck and that won't change.

I'd say they don't need a top-level PG, but just a defensive PG that can get the ball over half-court and perhaps hit a wide-open spot-up 3, even a corner-3 (which isn't that hard).

MARCUS BANKS!!!

He makes a stupid amount of money ($4.8 million), but only this year, can defend the ball and spot-up okay, and Toronto would suck Riley's old, flacid wanker if he would take him off their hands for some minimum scrub and cash.  They might even throw a second rounder Miami's way to get out from under Banks' deal.

That leaves the full MLE for the summer to get a center.  And, despite his loyalty to Boston, Perk would be a fool not to consider going to Miami, especially if they get the PG thing worked out somehow this year.  The MLE for 5 years with a trade bonus (getting his $$ up front), plus all that nearly-certain playoff pay/shares, PLUS being in tax-free Florida and contending for a title every single year?  Or stay in Boston with Rondo and an offense that will grow increasingly impotent as time ticks away...

Sorry to burst the bubble...

Yeah no way Danny lets Perkins go for just MLE money.

You think it's all up to Danny?

Maybe Perk likes winning, and might like his chances better in Miami?

Maybe the MLE plus playoff money with no state income taxes starts coming close to the cash per year Danny would give to a specialist like Perk?

Maybe Danny isn't willing to guarantee 5 years of big money to someone just coming off an injury, while perhaps Riley would?

It doesn't happen often, but players make decisions for multiple reasons.  There is no reason to think Boston will be a legit contender for many more years, while Miami is pretty much a lock to contend for the next 5 years.  Perk might stay, but it's no sure thing.

Perk would be a tremendous fit for Miami, but I get the sense that he'd rather eat glass than chase a ring with Lebron and Co.

I think Perk is a very confident guy, I think he has a lot of confidence in his own abilities and Rondo's.

If he's offered similar money from Boston and Miami he'll stay. I think he'll go wherever he gets the best deal overall, this is likely his one shot at a big deal after all. But MLE won't be enough to out bid Boston. (not unless he is unable to come back effectively then things might be dicey)

Rubio is worth WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more than this. Not even remotely close to being in the parking lot of the ballpark.

Good luck with that.

A rookie PG learning to play in the NBA with those three demanding the ball?  Good luck.

Perk would be a tremendous fit for Miami, but I get the sense that he'd rather eat glass than chase a ring with Lebron and Co.

Oh, of course we've all heard that "celtic for life" stuff.  Seriously, what else is he going to say?  Especially with years left on his deal?

And you may be right.  Personally, I'd eat the glass.  But if Perk were to look at things rationally, the best chance of winning every single year for the next 5 is in Miami.  Sorry, but they're guys are 1) in their prime, and 2) locked up under contract.  Ours, except for Rondo, are not.

No doubt Perk loves the C's and has been a Celtic since high school, but please, let's not pretend this is a sure thing.  Miami, with the playoff money and no taxes, can make a very, very attractive offer.

I'd estimate it would take something in the $10 million range to compete with tax-free Florida money?  That means no max free agents for us, folks, and we're riding Rondo, Pierce, and Perk (along with whatever's left of Ray and KG, if they stay).  We're looking at 2nd round exits, like the late 80's/early 90's with that group.  Danny might elect to buy some offensive firepower first with a max FA(which will be much needed in a couple of years).

Just presenting alternatives...keeping in mind tradeoffs and all...  It made sense for all concerned for role players like Posey and TA to leave before; it may make sense for Perk to go as well.
