Just caught a blurb that said "Pillars of the Earth" is going to be a series on Friday nights.  Not sure what channel, but it is one of the Encore channels.  I read the book a few years ago...great epic..historical novel about early England.  Can't wait!  It was a very good book, and will have some good actors in it, including Donald Sutherland.  I wish I had seen the whole advertisement, but I will check on it...

Loved the book.  There's somewhat a sequel for the book that's next on my list of books to tackle (takes place in the same castle, but a couple hundred years later.
Yup

It's going to be on Starz (which I don't get).

Loved the book, also.  Found the building of the cathedral fascinating.

I've seen the first two episodes On Demand.  Second episode is better than the first, and the series shows some promise, particularly with Rufus Sewell as a really good central character - Tom Builder.  They need to get Ian McShane more substantial things to do, his more reserved role makes you long for his years on Deadwood.  There are some other good characters, but the quality is a little uneven.

It's fairly melodramatic and lacks the A level writing and directing of some of the great historical cable series like The Tudors and Rome, or even Spartacus, but it could end up to be not bad.

You guys are good....the trailer I saw was on the Western Channel, which is Encore/Westerns, but I have't been able to find anything out about it except a brief synopsis.  It is not on any schedule right now that I can find....

2 things:

1) Tboots if you have not looked into netflix on demand, you should I just watched the first epi, and it was AWESOME. You get 1 DVD at home at all times (you get one and watch it, then send it back for another), then you get the 5 million or whatever titles on demand to your puter or TV. So worth it.

2) I liked this 1,000 times better than Spartacus. Very dialog heavy but so...so much smarter.

Bonus: I missed you Ian McShane. Promise you'll never leave me again. Al Swarengen you shall always be, but I'll make due.

IP, I just got my first HDTV, and a blue ray DVD player to go with it.  The DVD player had an internet interface thingy with access to Netflix (and an ever increasing amount of other doo-hickies).  Loving the Netflix instant thingies.  Absolutely amazing how much is available.  I haven't even used the main service of Netflix yet (having a DVD delivered).  It's a heck of a deal.

My wife and I have both read Pillars a couple of times and loved it.  We watched the first 6 episodes and are thirsty for more.  It is definitely a good representation of the book, and it's many characters.  I particularly like the bad bishop's actor.  That's got to be a fun role to play.  He's almost Ricardo Montalban like.

Pastor Phillip is pretty much spot on for what I had envisioned while reading.

Are there more episodes finished?
Yup
