Users on this forum seem to believe the Celtics have the ability to trick other team's GMs into agreeing to trades that don't benefit them in any possible way.

I feel that their are several factors:
1. Wishful thinking.
2. Talk from basketball pundits about expiring contracts being worth more than ever (which has inflated their value to outrageous level in the eyes of fans).
3. A need to try to fix the Celtics in order to get them back to the finals.
4. Trades like the Pau Gasol trade in the recent past that were extremely uneven.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

The Lakers had it when they conned Memphis into giving them Gasol. Why not us?!

Don't most of the proposals benefit the other teams in freeing them of future salaries? I don't read them all, but few of them are of the "Ray for Wade" ilk.

that IS funny....

no not really - one of the main principles of economics is that trade makes both sides better off - there does have to be something in it for both teams BUT often times its competitiveness traded for cap space or financial help... which is why a Ray Allen deal for a younger emerging guy makes sense, the team getting Ray gets cap relief, Celtics become more competitive

The ESPN trade checker is both the best and worst thing ever...all at the same time.

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
I think a lot of the trade ideas on here simply build on reports from the media.  For instance, if Phoenix is considering trading Amare and JRich for Jermaine O'Neal, why not see if we can swing the same thing?  If Iggy is available to a team taking on Dalembert's salary, why should we explore it?

A lot of times, the original media report is wrong, but I think it's fair for members to speculate and come up with ideas.

There are definitely some off the wall ideas in here, but I think overall, people can at least justify their thinking.

I'm referring to the off the wall ones...
Let's get Big Al back for a bottle of Gatorade
Trade Rasheed Wallace for Gerald Wallace..
Et cetera.
