So I went to Toine's debut tonight. Looked good in the paint still has enough skills to play in there plus he was probably playing the worst front line in the PR Basketball league. He had 17 points, badly missed some threes (SHOCKER!), he looks decent, but it will probably take him 5-7 games to get into playing shape. Marcus Fizer had 14 and 8 boards and sunk 2 FTs with 7 seconds to win the game. Guaynabo is now 1-0. Ill keep giving updates as the season progresses if Toine lasts the whole season. Only has one month guaranteed on his contract so the team was protected in case he was out of shape or simply couldnt play anymore. About 3,500 people showed up, pretty good considering Guaynabo is not a marquee franchise and they were playing a bad team.

Wow, that was an interesting read. Nice to see that bball players can increase their career longevity by opting to play in foreign leagues You can't say that about too many other 'American' sports (looks @ American football).

The local paper interviewed Walker today. He said the league was 10 times better than he expected, but that he hopes to get back into playing shape with his goal being getting back to the NBA. He actuallly guaranteed he would be back. Also, his salary is confirmed $ 7,000 a week. If he stays the whole year and the playoffs he should make about $ 1000,000.

Wow.  Good luck Toine.  It would would be a pretty cool story if he can somehow work his way back into the NBA.

And WOW Marcus Fizer!  There's a name I thought I'd never hear again.

Keep us posted on Toine updates.  Any wiggles?  What # is he wearing?
Yup

Just for fun, I went to the team's website
link: http://www.bsnpr.com/equipos/index.asp?e=14&serie=1&anio=2010

Antoine's position is "Delantero" which GOOGLE TRANSLATE translates as "striker". For reference, the other positions (escolta, armador, centro and alero) translated as "escort," "owner," "center," and ... alero?

Spanish speaking friends, is that a good translation? And if so, what the heck is a "striker"? I mean, we're talking about power forward here right? Centro=center, delantro=power forward, armador=small forward or swingman, esolta=2 gaurd, alero=point gaurd??? Am I right?

Or am I lost in translation? ;D

striker is the man that scores the gols in soccer but the real word is foward just like english

escolta i think this is tghe other guard but yes the translation is escort

armador  this is the pg the ones who arma or structure or elaborate.

centro   center

alero   the best translation for alero is wingman
wings= alas

Toine in PR?...LOL

Hey at least he is not playing for my favorite Puertorican team the "Leones del Ponce".  I was never a fan of his game.

Hey dude, I was born and raised on the Island.  I work in the States now.  All the best to Toine and hope he enyoys himself on that beautiful Island.

Please keep the updates coming. What is the size of the frontlines in this league? Are the teams generally pretty athletic? Its encouraging on paper to see him getting that many rebounds. Yes I have a soft spot for antoine and wish him the best even if its non prestigious puerto rican league. I for one would prefer that job to anyone I have ever held.

The team he played today had a 7 footer and 2 6 8 guys as their front line. Teams are very athletic at guard and wing, but quality big men are lacking they are usually guys who couldn't make it in the NBA. The real good big men will arrive in about a month when they are done with other leagues in Europe and Asia. The playoffs are much more competitive. Ill keep everyone informed, maybe Danny gives him a contract?

Danny did not really like Walker when he still had skills. Bringing him back at this point seems about as likely as us bringing back gary payton.

Thanks a ton for the updates jaime, keep them coming for sure.

I'll always have a soft spot for Toine, through all his flaws, and I wish him well. I hope he plays well in Puerto Rico and I hope he ends up back in the NBA some day.

EDIT: Anybody have a link to Marbury's player profile from the China league?
