Inspired by Chad Ford's "updated 10 names to be traded list", here are two trades that, if done in concert, could increase our window 5-7 more years. Both work on trade checker #s 5396974 and 5396978.
The SAC trade (similar ones have been on this board before) send Ray Allen to SAC for KMartin, Nocioni, and Sergio R
The MEM trade sends Perk, Shelden and JR to MEM for Gay and Thabeet.
Why SAC does it: $$$$$$$$$$$$ saved and the flexibility given to them for Ray's expiring. This is T. Evans team now, not KMartin's.
Why MEM does it: PERK. Perk. Perk. While Wms and Giddens will contribute defensively to the firepower-laden Griz, Perkins defensive presence is why they do it. He is young and experienced. They're gonna lose Gay anyway.
Negatives for us: In the short-term (this year specifically), for all these parts to work together, learn each other's tendencies and mesh, will be tough, but not impossible. In addition, losing Perk will be huge given his toughness and being in sync with KG on the rotations. We also lose our main rebounder which hasn't exactly been an area of strength for us.
Positives for us: Almost too many to mention for the longterm. Longterm, specifically however, a core going forward of RR, KMartin, Gay and Thabeet might be too good to pass up and will prolong PP and KG's careers. Thabeet is already an intimidator blocking shots, and while raw, will contribute now and improve in the future. Short term, it infuses new life into a team that has lost its way. The new lineup will still be talented enough to win it all this year.
RR/Sergio/Daniels
KMartin/Allen/House/Daniels
Pierce/Nocioni/Gay
KG/BBD/(one of Noc or Gay if we go small)
Sheed/Thabeet/KG/BBD
This is a versatile and flexible lineup with many possibilities.
(hopefully that won't confuse Doc that much)
