Extending Rondo

Does anyone know how to extend Rondo in NBA 2K10?  Everytime I try to extend him, it give me a message about not having enough room to sign him without going over the hard cap.  The off season is coming up and I need to get him signed before he becomes a free agent.   ???

don't worry about it to much, he'll be restricted and you'll have bird rights.
