This video shows the winner of "Ukraine's Got Talent", Kseniya Simonova, 24, drawing a series of pictures on an illuminated sand table showing how ordinary people were affected by the German invasion during World War II. Her talent, which admittedly is a strange one, is mesmeric to watch.

I've never seen anything like that.

I have to wonder how the music got worked out. She clearly didn't write all of it.

Redz where do you find these things?

Very impressive.  At first, I was thinking "Okay, this may be cool in a Bob Ross using sand sort of a way".  It went well beyond that, obviously.  Thanks for sharing.

By the way, regarding the music, that was Metallica at the 6 1/2 minute mark, right?

Yeah I think it was metalica

In my experience East Euros don't cry tons. They've been through a lot and can be pretty tough and don't get into their feelings a lot or have tons of use for therapy, so for me to see an entire room full of Ukrainians of all ages crying publicly is just something very different.

I have seen similar art in the past, with the sand manipulation, but this is incredible.  The most talented I have seen.

Good find, Redz.

Very cool ... love performance art, and this is a fresh application of it. Both my Mom and Sis are very good artists, (my Mom well-known in New England for her watercolors, mainly), and when my Sister and I used to take our kids to the ocean, she would make these amazing sculptures coming out of the sand ... dolphins diving, as if the sand were water, and lots of other stuff ... people would gather and take pics, then at the end of the day we would let the kids tear them down, though it always made me sad to let them. She felt like nature was the purest form of art, so wanted to leave it the way we found it. This reminded me of those times, and of how much joy and emotion we can sometimes bring to others ... just by sharing a part of ourselves ... in almost any way.

Wow...that was absolutely beautiful.  Thanks for sharing, TP.

As far as Metallica goes, you guys are right.  It is "Nothing Else Matters"

That was amazing!  I had seen sand drawing before and I think it really is an amazing display of art.  The combination of art and music while telling a story is just an amazing achievement that is incredibly difficult to top.  I thought it was interesting seeing this obviously very talented young lady doing something so meaningful to two generations before her.  It is a powerful display that the pain and suffering caused by the war hasn't been forgotten by her generation.  This was a really amazing video!

My Dad forwarded that one to me.

Funny, I had the volume way down when I was playing it last night and didn't hear the Metallica.

This is the fifth time someone linked me this, but it still gives me a lump in my throat.

For those interested in the music, Metallica has made many fine songs and there's a group of four men playing cello's that have covered a lot of them.

Their name is Apocalyptica.

Look 'm up, they're very, very good and the music is very moving.

Seriously, check out all Apocalyptica's music. They covered some more songs, and I believe they make their own music too. Very impressive. Even if you're not normally into that kind of music.

Doesn't get you anny happier if you feel like crap though :P

The version I linked above of "one" has lots of people in the crowd singing along, which just gives you chills to the bone.

.edit: ah, you know them ;)
