Toy Story 3. Excellent film.

Going to see Karate Kid tomorrow.

I've heard excellent reviews on Toy Story 3 from my friends who have kids.

If you liked the first two, you'll like this one too. Just a very well done movie.

Karate Kid--long but decent. Retold in a way that it isn't just a recycled story from an overrated movie in the 80's (come on guys, I was 9 or 10 when it came out and even I knew it was bad then)   :-\

Winter's Bone

Kind of an old style movie based on storyline and photography.  It draws you into a world you'd just as soon not know exists.  Grim, yet gripping backwoods tale that deals with values a bit skewed from what we might be used to, but values nonetheless.  Pretty intense cast of characters.  A few stereo-types, maybe, but no cliches (and no sentimentality).  John Hawkes is superb!

I left the movie feeling a taste of innocence in early childhood, though short lived, is better than no taste at all.

since nobody said anything about this, I loved, loved, loved this movie. Incredibly messed up, leaves you wanting to punch something in the face repeatedly. Its not a happy movie, its not a sad movie really. It is violent, but well done..and not some cheap grindhouse kind of violent. Its a portrait of a man who is completely screwed up before he goes to jail, and in jail he exponentially gets screwed up more. The thing is though, that he's not really sad. In fact, he's completely unapologetic.

Recently I've seen....

Unthinkable
-Straight to DVD release that I honestly liked a lot. Its pretty hit or miss with critics, but Samuel L Jackson is typical Samuel L Jackson here. Not the snuff film you might expect it to be, it follows a terrorist who must be interrogated by a black-ops interrogator and an FBI agent. It poses a moral question, and the answer is more ambiguous than the ending might seem on first watch.

I've also seen the Expendables, which was kinda crappy, and all the other movies everyone else has seen (Hot Tub, Kick-Mike Breen, etc...)

Karate Kid was good if a little too long. I also would have done one or two things differently.

Whip It
Drew Barrymore directed it, stars Ellen Page.
Thought it was pretty good.  I hate to admit it, but I'm a big Ellen Page fan.

Saw Predators today.  I enjoy it.  It's not as good as the original (obviously), but it was still a lot of fun.  Definitely worth seven bucks.

it was actually released in a lot of countries under that name.  they released it as karate kid in america bc of the association of the name.  similar to how bruce lee's way of the dragon film was released in america as return of the dragon bc it wanted the association of his enter the dragon film.

will smith's kid was great in the movie, especially with his training, which was prevalent in the film.  jackie chan blogged throughout the filming and months prior to filming about how amazed he was with jaden's dedication to learn and his athleticism.  as someone who does kung fu, i was amazed at how well jaden's form and flexibility was for someone who only had 8-12 months of training.  kung fu is one of those things that looks really easy on tv but when you actually do it, is very difficult.  kung fu means "time and energy", and thats exactly what someone has to do if they want to improve.
