Last movie I watched in the literal sense was this one

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10X_owZA2Sc

Last great movie I watched was Sunset Boulevard.

To the people who watched Darkest Hour: care to say a few things about what you liked about the film?

I guess just stepping into the period for a bit, and getting a little perspective on the man's mindset (or at least the one the movie maker was portraying).

Brawl in Cell Block 99. It's playing on Amazon Prime, right now. I loved it!

The Shape of Water was amazing. You've gotta go into it with a mind open to inter-species banging but if you can get there it's the most romantic movie I've seen in years. There's a handful of really great performances, gorgeous special effects, and Guillermo Del Torro is one of the master craftsmen working behind the camera.

I also just watched Lady Bird. I feel a little uncomfortable comparing it to a Noah Baumbach movie, because that feels lazy but this is kind of like the best movie Noah Baumbach never made. It has the depth of character and honesty that Baumbach has shown at his best but Gerwig's movie has a lot more energy and is more fun than anything I've ever seen Baumbach do. It's your classic coming-of-age but really nicely done.

A Quiet Place. I thought it was okay, but had way too many plot holes. I donít get the rave reviews; itís on par with a lot of decent horror movies.

Black Panther. Ranks with The Dark Knight at the top of the genre.

  • This is the time when Danny 'Thanos' Ainge brings 'balance' to the roster
Logan. I am wondering if they just killed him off cos Marvel are gonna reboot the X-Men at some point in the future.

Just saw this and I pretty much agree. It's a nice idea, the story moves along well, and Krasinski keeps most of the tense stuff pretty tense. But the characters are underdeveloped, the plot doesn't hold up to too much scrutiny, and as restrained as the movie tries to be there are plenty of instances where a more confident director might have exercised more restraint.

I liked it well enough but, yeah, not one of the greats.

Ready Player One - My love for movies started with Steven Spielberg, as he has made some of my favorite movies, including my all-time favorite in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Ready Player One brought me back to vintage Spielberg and his mastery of mixing story telling and action. A total blast of a movie and one that should be experienced at the cinema, and especially in IMAX.

Rampage - The Rock has the charisma that is just made for the big screen. He is turning into the Tom Cruise of movies, in that he alone virtually guarantees either box office success or a movie where the audience will have a really good time. Rampage had way more action that I could have imagined. The CGI was fantastic, especially for the animals. I didn't play the game much when I was younger, but from what I remember, the movie seemed to do a pretty good job of tying it in.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle - I wasn't sure how the sequel would work or tie into the original. I'm happy to say it worked. The casting was perfect and the movie was funny, with a nice blend of action and adventure.

3 Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri - intense, great performances, unique, many strong memorable moments, politically incorrect, story never gives you what you want, some flaws but overall I was riveted and I can't think of anything else like it.  Music is great and includes a song by Townes Van Zandt.
Days up and down they come, like rain on a conga drum, forget most, remember some, don't turn none away.   Townes Van Zandt

I'm out of the loop regarding Hollywood movies this year. Outside of Dunkirk I don't recall having watched any.

I prefer artsy stuff, but I'm also interested to watch movies that were great commercial successes.

Any kind soul interested to make suggestions?

Black Panther was pretty good.
