From Marc Spears at 3am
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-rondoextension110109&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

The deal is for $55 million over 5 years, though there were no details about extensions, whether or not it is front or backloaded (although most likely back loaded) and whether there will be termination options

Seeing as the Celtics offered about 45 and Rondo wanted near max 65, I think this is a perfect compromise. He's still getting paid less than point guards who he outperforms (Nash, Baron).

I'm just glad this is over and we can focus on continuing to win. And I'm glad we will see Rondo in a Celtic uniform for a few more years

Putting things into perspective, of all the high dollar figure extensions this year given to those who were in their rookie contracts, Rondo is getting paid:

$1 million more a year than Andrea Bargnani
$2 million less a year than Lamarcus Aldridge
$5 million less a year than Brandon Roy

I think it's fair, if not a very good deal for the Celts.

Everyone throw positive energy into the ring here...

Please don't be another Mark Blount..
Please don't be another Mark Blount...

Seriously , I hope this is very incentive laden after that Doc quote that he's just a young guy just chasing his first big contract...

I could be wrong, but Rondo totally doesn't seem the type to do something like that. Blount was always a loafer with the exception of half the season before free agency.

A little more than I would have given him but I am not paying so I am happy...

But Rondo needs to step up now! I want to see consistency...

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
Assuming the reported numbers are accurate and that he got a typically structured contract (lowest possible initial salary wtih the max 10.5% bump of the first year salary in every year) Rondo's contract looks approximately like this:

2010-11: $9,090,909.09
2011-12: $ 10,045,454.54
2012-13: $ 10,999,999.99
2013-14: $ 11,954,545.44
2014-15: $ 12,909,090.89

Great news. Another thing we don't have to worry about now, very reasonable deal as well.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Great way to start of my day.

He got Tony Parker money.

Like Parker I think it will turn ou to be worth it.
