ESPN says it was a cardiac arrest due to an enlarged heart.  :-\

Terrible news.  Thoughts go out to his family.

Now, on to the cold-hearted analysis of the situation:  in a case like this, is there any history of the NFL awarding compensatory draft picks or anything of the like?

Not that I can recall.  :-\

I was excited to see if he could put his talent together with a full off-season and camp under Rod Marinelli.

Was this a pre-existing condition?  You think between college, the scouting combine, and team physicals something like an enlarged heart would show up, right?

Someone with a medical background would probably have a lot of insight into this.

From what I understand enlarged hearts are difficult to detect at times, or sometimes don't even manifest themselves until later in life.

They absolutely have to test for these things before the draft, too many athletes have died from this condition.

No talk about tonight's Pro Bowl?  Shocking...   ;)

Honestly, the NFL needs to either seriously revamp this game or just get rid of it all together.

Out of the 4 major sports in the US, this is, by far, the worst allstar game.

It's absolutely amazing what a hype-machine the Super Bowl has become ... they now squeeze a complete week of round-the-clock coverage out of it ... soon it will be two. I mean, how many times can you analyze and re-analyze two teams? Ugh!
