An online friend from Venezuela recommended me
Hector Lavoe some weeks ago. Lavoe was Puertorican, but apparently he is popular in much of Spanish speaking Latin America. There even is a bust of him in Callao in Lima.
He's not particularly known in Greece, but still... I regret it took me so long to discover him.
He sings with a natural nasalisation (<--does this make sense in English?), has a very strong and clean voice, and perfect control of it.
Some of his most well known songs are La murga de Panama, Ella mintió, El día que mi suerte cambiará. But his signature song is El Cantante, the lyrics talk about what it means to be a singer. I do not post a YouTube link, if you search it on YouTube or Vkontakte, you will get plenty of good results.
I was wondering though how well known he is in America. He arrived to NYC when he was 16 and iirc he spent most of his life there. Any fans of Lavoe in the forums?
