Hey, TB ... does anyone jitterbug anymore? I know it's a lot like swing dance, except the steps in jitterbug are 3/4 to a 4/4 beat. My Mom taught me when I was about six, and I taught my daughters, so now the only time I get to jitterbug is with them, or sometimes my sister and I will do it when we're out at a club, (and people are always rather impressed, though it's not that tough, once you get the hang of it).
There is West Coast Swing, Shag, and East Coast Swing. East Coast Swing is the most like jitterbug, or lindy steps. Triple step, triple step, rock step...or a variation throughout. West Coast Swing and Lindy has the partners facing each other in the same way, but the steps are a little different, and they are much smoother. You can check them out on YouTube. They even have lessons on line. My husband doesn't dance, which is why I line dance. We dance to all dance beats, including cha, mambo, two step, east and west coast swing, waltz, etc. I am very rusty at partner or ballroom dancing.
My Sis and I learned a few of the jitterbug trick-steps from Mom and Dad when we were little, and we use them when we
do get to dance, (usually family weddings, cuz not many folks our age ever learned it - it left with the fifties for the most part), but the
real treats are the times (rare now, unfortunately), that we all get to see my
folks jitterbug ... man, are they smoooooth, just effortless and so in-sync with each other, ya know? Their 64th anniversary was a couple of days ago and we got them to dance for only a minute or so, but they were still just as smooth as ever.
