I happened to stumble upon the movie "Casino", and it reminded of what a great film it is, and also what a great director Martin Scorsese film is.

He has made so many classic and amazing films, and it got me thinking. What is Scorsese's best film? For me, it is hands down Goodfellas, but many of his films could be argued. I love gangster films, so I am biased.

What do you think?

most peeps will say goodfellas and i cant really argue with that...for me its Departed.  I love that movie and could watch it any day of the week.  I know it has flaws (jack mailing it in, and Martin sheen's accent) but it is still a great movie with some great performances from Matt D, Leo, and Mark W

edit: flaws not flows

For me it's Goodfellas and it's not even close, though I liked The Departed too.

Wasn´t into the Departed purely because it was so hyped and wasn´t what everyone cracked it up to be.  Too long and not spectacular enough.  Goodfellas is a classic, but it still wasn´t a that great a flick in my opinion.

Casino is truly one of his greatest, though I remember being slightly traumatized the first time I watched it.

However, the Last Temptation of Christ, Taxi Driver and Raging Bull are superior to all of those films.  And just so it can be said, I think Scorcese has made a lot of crap as much as he´s made good/great stuff.

Movies are like the celtics though, its all just taste and opinion.

that wasnt scorsese, that was coppolla again.

Departed was decent enough, but Raging Bull is one of the best films of all time.

That's right...brain fart. Goodfellas then The Departed and some rip on it but a really loved Gangs of New York.

I know I'm old (school), but it has to be Mean Streets. This became a cult classic in the late 70s and early 80s being shown every week in Harvard Square and for good reason. This is the one that started it all for Deniro and Scorcese, especially together. They both drew on their roots for this film and it shows in its authenticity and soul. Great Flick.

Goodfellas  but a quiet small, often forgotten, amusement that I love is After Hours.

Taxi Driver is my favorite movie so there is no debate for me. It's pretty crazy how Scorcese has adapted to the times to make entertaining and quality movies that actually make money as well in every era since he has been out. His beautiful camera work always pulls me in even if the genre he is doing doesnt interest me. Although he has done a few movies that miss the mark.

Give my thumbs up to "the last temptation of christ" which is film that is as provoking as anything the indies are putting out.  For what it is worth the score / sound track to the film is brilliant - composed by Peter Gabriel - these tracks were 20 years ahead of their time...

Goodfellas is probably the best, but I really like Aviator and King of Comedy too.
