I imagine there are a lot of teams out there inquiring about his services and wanting him for the same reasons why Houston will probably not trade him.
He's good
He'll accept a bench role
He's a good shooter
He's a great defender
He's an all around good guy.
I don't think teams are gonna be able to get there hands on him, and as someone said in another thread about him, he's the cornerstone of the Houston team now with Yao going down.
It would indeed be a dream to get him.
Battier is like the billionaire's Scal. He'd be perfect on a team like ours, or Cleveland, or San Antonio - he's the perfect role player on a great team.
I don't think he makes sense on a rebuilding team. It's kind of like how Scal was worthless on the 26-win team here, but really helped a lot last year.
The big thing is I don't see why you pay both Battier and Ariza to fill more-or-less the same role. Battier's better, Ariza's younger and they just committed to him a week ago.
I think they try and move Battier, knowing they can get cap space AND something really good in return for him (high draft picks, high-quality prospects, etc). Clear the cap space, they don't have many contracts other than Battier and Yao after this year, then make a run at Bosh, see if he wants to come back to Texas.
So, I expect to see Battier traded, but we don't have the "sweeteners" that the trade will require. He's NOT a cap-dump guy.
