Why for OKC: They were interested in Tony last year and he's local. Walker has a lot of potential and would get a better shot on OKC. Livingston is a young pg and they already have a young pg and a good backup.

Why for Boston: C's save a decent amount of money (considering the luxury tax). Tony Allen has worn out his welcome. Walker isn't going to get PT in Boston. Livingston can be our backup point guard and can be paired with Eddie in the backcourt because of Shaun's height. Livingston is still young (23). We get a backup pg and get rid of two roster excess players.

Trade an expiring contract and a wing guy with at least some potential for an injury prone 6' 7'' 4 year pg....

I'm not seeing it.

I don't find myself thinking this very often, but I think we can get more for Tony Allen, assuming we package him with Scal and one of our young guys.

Well I was thinking the opposite.. no way they give up on Shaun for TA and Walker. Shaun has potential, maybe he'll stay healthy one day.

Why give up our only tradable contracts for a project PG. I like Shaun a lot, and I hope he's really back to being an NBA player. But we are trying to win now, if we trade Tony and Walker we need to be getting a veteran wing we can rely on back.

I think he is to much of a question mark.

The big young PG I want the Celtics to trade for is Mardy Collins.  Big.  Plays defense.  Could defend SG to allow House be the PG on defense.

The guy lost every ligament in his leg with that injury. No thanks.

They've got Green and Durant at the wings, why in the world would Walker have more opportunity there?  At least here, if he stuck around, in a couple years he might be getting a lot of minutes.  In OKC, he might be a career ten minute man.

Nevertheless, if I were OKC I would take that deal in a heart beat.  Livingston is going to have to live off of experience in limited playing time to have any impact.  His career now will be at best a consistent back-up player. At worst out of the league, or consistently on the IR.

I'm glad you brought him up, I agree he's an excellent fit.

i am all for trading tony, pruitt and walker/giddens. i think the 4 of them are nothing more than deadweight that will not contribute to the needs of the team this year. get someone that is actually useful for all or any of those 4

What if allowing you to get rid of Tony now frees us money to sign a good FA now.

Also people are forgetting that OKC is under the cap. I think we would get a trade exception in the deal.

Firstly, I don't think OKC needs to save money with the cap space they'll have next year. I also think we'd like to see how Bill Walker improves.

If we do trade some expirings, it had better be for a player that puts us over the top or solidifies the bench which I'm not sure Livingston does. He is not a proven talent yet, and since high school everyone knew given his frame he's an injury waiting to happen.

If we definitely need a pg a better option would be Tony + Scal + Pruitt for Barbosa. At least we know the Suns really want to save money.
