The Knicks will try to use their $5.7 million mid-level exception on Grant Hill, who accepted an invitation to New York Monday for a recruiting visit, according to a source.

"Hill's a class act," Mike D'Antoni said Wednesday. "He didn't miss a game last year. I think he's one of the best free agents out there."

Wow. I guess I didn't see that one coming... the Knicks are crazy to offer Hill the full MLE. He hasn't signed with them yet but I can't see him refusing this deal... bad news for us.

Knicks are trying to sell tickets this season while hoping to save cap for next year.

I would be surprised if it is for more then one year.

I presume it's a one year deal.

It'll be interesting to see whether Grant wants more money and the larger role on the court, or whether he wants to take less money, and a smaller role, in order to play for a title.

Don't forget that Hill played one year with D'Antoni and he seems to like him a lot.

I guess it's a one year deal because it makes more sense for the Knicks to offer him such a deal. Now maybe he would prefer less money but two or three years on a contending team so we can still hope to sign him but this Knicks offer is huge.

I'm fine with New York taking Hill for that kind of money. I'd rather develop Walker all season long than overspend for a guy like Hill. Besides, Bill Walker can bring a kind of physicality that Grant Hill could never bring.

I wonder if the Knicks will ever make a move that makes sense.

This is exactly right. No way it's more than 1 year.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
methinks the Knicks know that Wilson Chandler and Gallinari need to develop some decent on the court habits, and a vet like Hill could make a world of difference for them.

I'm excited about seeing Gallinari play next season.

i had hoped hill would sign with the celtics, and he may still do so.

but failing that, at least hill is NOT headed to cleveland, LA, orlando, or SA.

the knicks may sign hill, but they wont go very far next year.

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

This reminds me of the Duhon signing. They are putting all their eggs in the 2010 basket.
