Rumor has it that Kahn may be willing to overpay for the opportunity to draft Rubio or Thabeet...

We're trying to move our up-and-coming point guard...

Maybe McHale could handle the introductions?

there is no one at 5 or 6 that would help us win a championship, I could maybe see it if you then swap them for Amare Stoudamire and then sign a Vet FA PG like Kidd, Miller or Bibby

That's officially the first idea involving Rondo for a deal centered on lottery loot that's got me thinking.

Good stuff, Wiggle.

i agree. there's a pretty big drop off after Griffin, Harden and Rubio.

trading Rondo for anything other than a chance to draft one of those guys would be a huge waste IMO.

Yeah, no thank you to that deal.

I mean, if the #5 and #6 only get you the #2, then I think the Celts would be massively overpaying.  Rondo may be flawed, but he's also proven that he's no worse than significantly above average.  There's no guarantee that any guard in this draft will ever reach that level.

Except we don't know who'll be available. There is a scenario in which Rubio falls to 5.

If not, at least one, possibly both of James Hardin and Stephen Curry will be available. Also, probably Ainge's infatuation Tyreke Evans. AND the lately out of favor Jordan Hill.

I`d rather get Al Jefferson back.
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

Yeah, but which combination of those players puts us in at least as good of a position to win now as Rondo does?  Who is our starting point guard, if Rubio isn't there?  Are we ready to turn over the keys to a flawed player (whoever we end up selecting?)

Well obviously I'm in the keep Rondo camp, but if this trade was to go down, some opportunities would be intriguing.  I think Stephon Curry could be a good point guard for our system. In the 2008 Finals we really did well with a good shooting pg (House). Not a fan of Evans, but the #6 pick should get you something good. If you preferred Flynn as a pg, you could always trade the #5 pick to NY and get back the #8 and Chandler. Lot's of options I guess.

I'm curious, how do people think Curry would do as a pg in our system?

  • Rondo = Good
Us trading Rondo for #5 and #6 would only make sense if KG's injury is way more serious than anybody outside of the C's organization is aware of and they've decided to start building for the future because winning now is not an option anymore.

We could trade Ray for some other young guys (maybe with Golden State for example) and then draft a couple decent prospects (flawed but decent) like Curry and Evans or Harden and Flynn.

Minny would never do such a trade. They are probably trying to dangle both picks to the clippers for the 1st pick imo

If they can't pull the trigger i expect them to draft either thabeet or jordan hill with one of the picks which leaves our boy al jefferson free to be traded.

Al Jefferson and the 18th pick for rondo/r. allen could be possible imo with danny drafting maynor

yeah, but once you get down to Curry and Evans, you are taking a big step down IMO....

I don't know the answer, but I do know Danny deserves credit for this proposal even being fathomable.

Hmmmmm.
Okay, I'll play along.

1. Trade Rondo for #5, #6, Mark Madsen (salary match).
2. Draft Tyreke Evans with #6.
3. Trade #5 + Ray Allen to Chicago for #16 + Hinrich + Miller.
4. Draft Ty Lawson with #16.
5. Resign BBD and Powe
6. Sign Grant Hill to vet min.
7. Cut Pruitt + Madsen

Lineups:
PG: Hinrich/House/Lawson
SG: Tyreke Evans/T. Allen/Giddens
SF: Pierce/Hill/Walker
PF: KG/BBD/Scal
C: Perk/Miller/Powe
