Here is a trade that combines two rumors.

Rumor 1: One NBA GM said the Suns are still trying to figure out how to move Amare Stoudemire and Shaquille O'Neal. http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball/articles/2009/06/14/a_new_daye_on_horizon/?page=3. That the source is the Globe might indicate a trade is brewing.
Rumor 2: Chad Ford's rumor about the Celtics trading with the Wizards probably don't need to site those.

Boston Trades: Ray Allen, future first
Boston Receives: Amare Stoudamire, 5th pick, Deshawn Stevenson

Washington trades: 5th pick, Deshawn Stevenson, Etan Thomas and Mike James
Washington Receives: Ray Allen

Phoenix trades: Amare Stoudamire
Phoenix Receives: Etan Thomas, Mike James and a future 1st

If this trade happens we are better with Amare, prolonging KG's career, meaning that we could have at least one of KG, Perk and Amare on the court at all time. Stevenson could start unless Harden, Evans or whoever we drafted pushed him. I think that makes us better now and in the future. As well as giving Washington a vet that can make them a playoff team and giving Phoenix cap relief.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

What is Phoenix's motivation here?  I think they want more than expiring contracts for Amare, who is an All-NBA caliber player.

How about we get the 14th pick in the draft and they get the 5th pick. So now they are moving up as well as getting a future first?

How about we don't get any picks? That makes more sense.

I guess we could just not get any picks but then would you really be interested in the deal. If we swapped Amare for Ray then we are bringing an all star into our front court which already has KG and Perk and then creating a hole in our back court.

I don't like any of these Amare deals for a couple reasons.

1. The guy has a detached retina.  Check out this article from truehoop about his injury;
http://myespn.go.com/blogs/truehoop/0-38-215/Three-Anecdotes-About-Retina-Injuries.html

That article doesn't make me very comfortable about his future, no one has even seen him play since the injury

2. We're going to have to give this guy a MONSTER contract extension in order to get the value we're looking to get from the trade.  He is a total headcase, I don't want to throw that much money at him.

3. Bringing Amare in puts Perk on the bench.  I am a huge Perk fan, he's a throwback player and one of maybe 3-4 centers in the NBA that can guard Dwight Howard one on one.  Dwight loves orlando and is going to be a foe of ours for some time.  You know who can't guard Dwight howard (or anyone for that matter)?  Amare.  Also, Perk is cheap and if you can get a very effective starter on the cheap, then you keep them.

4. Perk is a perfect complementary player.  He does the little things that make teams successful and he will get even better as he is still really really young.  If we get Amare, Perk, a surly dude by all accounts, will likely pout and this will cause problems.

We need young players on the wing and a back up big man!  Amare is not the answer!

Exerpted above from your post, I have a couple of questions:
Please educate me regarding Amare being a head case.  I am not being a wiseguy -- I really don't know.  I remember the pre-injury Amare who was a dominant and physical offensive player.  He is still young and I am surprised -- given a guy who I recall being a physical specimen -- strong and agile -- that he could not learn to play some 'D'.  I believe your take that he is a feeble defensive player, but just wondering if the C's intensity on defense could work for Amare since I imagine the 'D' issue is intensity (and perhaps BIQ?) rather than physical capacity.

Also, I doubt anyone will make Perk pout unless they are not giving the effort.  Amare would be dividing 96 minutes among 3 guys (OK 86 if you throw 10 at Leon).  That allows KG to play 25-30 for preservation; gives 30-35 to Perk and leaves 25 for Amare.  This allows Doc to play to match-ups and stay with a hot player.  Seems big man flexibility could be a great strength in this scenario.

Money issues aside for the moment -- unless the retina and knee issues are likely to keep Amare off the court, or if as you say, Amare is a true headcase -- I like this frontcourt a lot.  I would miss Ray Allen and we'd need a sharpshooting wing and defensive specialist wing as well.  These pieces can be found easier than a talented big, but there would be a big hole without Ray.

Amare, earlier in the playoffs, was in a bunch of articles talking about how he'd like to go to other teams.  He said that he liked Washington and NYC.  I mean, that's unnacceptable to talk about to the media in my opinion, when you're still under contract.

I also read "7 seconds or less" and the guys is just tapped.  He was younger then, yes, but they were upset that he wasn't rehabbing as hard as he should have especially considering the team had given him a max contract extension only a year earlier.

More than this though, I mean I could take a head case, I'm a huge Randy Moss fan afterall.  The guy has a horrible injury history.  He's had microfracture surgery, he's had a partially torn retina AND the detached retina.  Have you read that article?  It sounds really bad.  This is a huge risk especially when we're all set in the front court.

Wait in "7 seconds or less" they complain about him not rehabbing hard enough from micro fracture knee surgery. A lot of players don't come back at all from that, that he was able to regain most of his athleticism was a miracle. One that might not have happened had he rushed to get back.

They also complain about his overall attitude, he's pouted since then at various times. I'd love to have Amare on this team, but I don't think he's worth what we'd have to give up to get him. It'd kill or chances of coming back with a healthy KG and winning banner 18.

I don't think the point was that we wouldn't want more picks (obviously, if we could get Amare Stoudemire AND the 5th pick in the draft AND DeShawn Stevenson for just Ray Allen, we'd do it). I think the point was it's absurd to think we could also get a draft pick in this trade. A week ago, people were debating Ray AND Rondo for Amare and Barbosa. Now suddenly the proposal was that we don't give up Rondo at all, but we somehow get the 5th pick too? It's just a crazy one-sided trade that doesn't happen.
Go Celtics.
