These draft rumors of Rondo for draft picks are getting a little under my skin so I thought I'd just cut to the chase.

Forget the number 2 pick. Would you even do it for number 1?

Personally when I see the word "Rondo" in a trade rumor the only other names I want to see next to it are

Chris Paul
Derron Williams
Derrik Rose (I'm listening, but what else ya got? Better talk fast or I'm walking away)
Dwight Howard
Lebron
D Wade and it better make sense
Brandon Roy
Kevin Durant
Al Jefferson
(que the Dr. Evil pinky finger) A ...hundred..million...dollars?
and that's about it

Ok, maybe I am slightly overvaluing him (maybe. Slightly) but I'd rather overvalue him than undervalue clearly one of the top 3-4 young point guards in the NBA.  I don't feel like later on being like "We traded the best pg of his era when it was obvious that's where he was headed and all we got was an Antoine Walkeresque occasional all-star shooting guard" or worse yet "A Marcus Banks-like hyped prospect"

Remember Marcus Banks? Cause that's what happens sometimes to young hyped pgs. Sebastian Telfair, Joe Forte, Luke Ridnour, Jordan Farmar, Marcus Williams, Raymond Felton, DJ Augustin, TJ Ford, Jarret Jack, Acie Law, Antonio Daniels

Or you can take Chauncey Billups. He's good now, but how long did that take to happen? Like 5 years? I want a championship this year. I'm not waiting that long

No.

Quality point guards are just too hard to come by in the NBA.  Rondo is already, arguably, Top 5 in the league.  Trading him away and taking Griffin or even Rubio guarantees nothing.  Personally, I think Griffin is the closest thing to a "sure thing" in this draft but he's a PF.  You don't trade away your floor general for a PF who's going to be a backup for at least a couple of seasons.  Secondly, if the goal was to take Rubio with the pick, I don't like the idea of a rookie PG trying to run a veteran-laden starting lineup.  Too many concerns and question marks there.

For the first pick in last year's draft maybe. This one has talent at the top, but its not 2003, or even 2005.

No, not for this year's #1.

For a Kevin Durant or a Greg Oden type of draft pick, yes I would.

Straight up?  No.

I would only consider trading Rondo for any draft pick this year if we were also getting back a second young player with star potential.

Well before we knew how Oden would turn out, I would. You don't hear the phrase "can't miss big man" very often attached to athletic 7fters.

I wouldn't but mainly because Rondo is so important to OUR team and we already have KG at pf.  Griffin I love, dave cowens work ethic, footwork, good skills and a beast of a body.  I can see if all works out for him to be a top 5 pf in the league in 2 years.  Rondo I see as becoming (not yet there) #2 pg in the league behind paul.  When Rondo is on he dominates the court like very few players at any posistion.

definitely, and you would be crazy not to. I think his playoff performance has really made homers out of all of us Boston fans...Rondo is awesome and dynamic, but you definitely trade him for the first pick...in almost any draft- nevermind a draft that has a certain #1.

If we could aquire an adequate Rafer Alston type point guard to replace Rondo, then I'd absolutely trade Rondo for Griffin.  If we couldn't find a decent point guard, then forget it.  But I'm super high on Griffin, and in my opinion he is more of a "can't miss" player than Durant was.  He's going to dominate like Karl Malone for a long time.

I second that. I love Rondo and his game, but Griffin is going to be absolute star. However, i would not want to be point-guardless. If we could ensure that we would get a adequate starting point guard i would be for it 100%

  • Rondo = Good
I don't think there are any good enough prospects in this draft to justify that.

If this were a matter of getting a potential superstar, then definitely.  But I don't think anybody in this draft really qualifies.  Griffin may be a sure thing, but he's only guaranteed to be a contributor.  It's hard to say that he's a guaranteed franchise guy.
