Found this by way of RealGM, which misleadingly says the offer was made recently. The article says it was made during last season:

Quote
A team put in a call to the Spurs last season with a legitimate offer for Manu Ginobili.

“Helluva player for a helluva player,” is the way Gregg Popovich describes the proposal now.

. . . .

A rumor surfaced this month that the Wizards called the Spurs with an offer for him, and maybe all of this made Ginobili wonder if the ground had shifted. Asked by the Argentine press this week whether he thought he could be traded, he said “impossible” had lost a few letters.

“Today I believe there is a chance it could happen,” he said.

Any guesses as to whom the Wizards offered up in exchange? I'm guessing Antawn Jamison, in a salary dump deal. Which makes me then wonder why the Spurs would turn that down.

If it were Butler they'd probably consider it more than for Antawan.

Ginobili is a much better player than either Butler or Jamison.

I thought it was the draft pick that Washington were offering up.

When healthy, sure, Ginobli is more valuable. But you have to wonder how much tread he's got left on those wheels.

The offer was made during last season.

The offer was made during last season.

Alright, that makes more sense.  I was confused here for a second.

If the offer was Butler, the deal would have been done.

Jamison, not so much.  To slow for them to put at SF.

Not in this case, anyway.

The offer was either Arenas, Butler, or Jamison.  I would assume it was Jamison.

Right now, I'll take Butler or Pierce. Its a tough call if its for Manu. If Wizards don't want Butler we will take him. I think TA, Scal, House should be enough 4 a Butler trade ;D.

PG: Parker
SG: Mason
SF: Jamison
PF: Duncan
C: Oberto/Kurt Thomas

Bench: Hill, Bonner, Finley, Bowen

They could slot Finley at the SF, slide Jamison to PF, and Duncan at C if they wanted to go small.

Sign a FA big for some added depth, and that's still a pretty solid team, no?

My guess is that it would involve that 5th pick. Wizards have made it known that they weren't in favor of the draft this year.

Love to grab Butler for those 3. Possible if the Wizards are trying to free up some money.

I think the offer from last season and the Wizards offer are two separate offers.

I think the Wizards offer is based around their draft pick.
