I was thinking about this the other day and was wondering what the top what if moments in Celtics history were.

I came up with the following, in no particular order (some like the deaths are glaringly obvious).

What if Bias and/or Lewis don't die?

What if the Hawks don't trade Russell to the C's for Macauley and Hagan?

What if Red doesn't retire from coaching in 1966?

What if the C's don't draft Bird because he wasn't leaving college immediately?

What if the Warriors didn't want Joe Barry Carroll and the C's never get Parish (the C's could have still taken McHale at 1 instead of 3)?

What if the C's actually traded Bird, McHale, and Parish when they still had some value later in their careers?

What if the C's actually win the lottery and end up with Tim Duncan?

What if KG gets traded to someone else and the C's ultimately end up with Gasol and Jefferson?

Just some interesting things to ponder altered by the bounce of the ball (so to speak).  Did I miss any?

What if Danny Ainge had a successful baseball career with the Blue Jays?

What if we'd hired Larry Brown instead of Rick Pitino?

What if Chris Wallace had carried over the rights to Denver's draft pick for another season, instead of drafting Kendrick Brown?

All the negativity in this town sucks. It sucks, and it stinks, and it sucks. - Rick Pitino

-What if Bird makes that 3 pointer in Game 4 of the '87 Finals?

-What if Pierce makes those free throws in Game 4 of the '02 ECF?

-What if Pierce had been traded to Portland?

-What if Tony Allen hadn't blown out his knee on the dunk after the whistle?  (More from a trading chip than basketball question)

What if the Celtics didn't get "stuck" with Bob Cousy...

What if we were traded with the Clippers?

What if Red wasn't allowed to draft Bird when he did (they changed the rules because of that)?

And #1 curently...What if KG was healthy?
Yup

TP for a really fun topic!

-What if the Cs had won the 2007 lottery and drafted Greg Oden?
-What if Kevin Garnett had surgery in February of this year, immediately after being injured?
-What if Gaston hadn't traded away Joe Johnson?
Celtics fan for life.

- What if ML takes Kobe instead of Antoine?
- What if the C's end up with Duncan instead of Mercer and still had Chauncey?

Those two together would mean possible 1-4 of:

Duncan, EWill, Kobe, Chauncey - ummm ridiculous?

The ramifications of that alternate reality boggle my mind too much.

All of these submissions have the makings of a really good Joan Osbourne song.

I could only come up with one: What if Pierce has accepted the trade to Portland for what ultimately would have been Chris Paul? They probably still would have had a top pick in 06 and wouldn't have had to trade it to dump Raef. Paul, Al, Perk, and possibly one of Roy/Gay is a solid nucleus.

We'd probably all be speaking German now.
