  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
Quote
There was some growing chatter within NBA circles Saturday that another and more high-profile forward [than Joe Smith] could also become a free agent via a buyout on Sunday. One source said the name would "surprise" a lot of people if it can get done and the Cavs would likely be interested.

I wonder who that could be referring to.  Who is more high-profile than Joe Smith and is on an expiring contract?  Rasheed?  If so, the Moore signing would *really* stink.

Of course, take this with a grain of salt; I don't trust much that I read in the media these days.

All the negativity in this town sucks. It sucks, and it stinks, and it sucks. - Rick Pitino

You don't think the Cs would make a run at this "mystery forward" and cut Giddens if they landed him? It would seem worth it to do that to bolster our bench even more and keep him away from Cleveland. I doubt it's Sheed though - I doubt Dumars would want to make himself look even worse by completely blowing things up. Chandler, maybe? I'm not following what's going on in New Orleans but they wanted to get Chandler out of there...

No way New Orleans buys out Chandler of his big contract.

I have my doubts on Sheed, but I'm not sure who else fits the bill of this rumor.

Drew Gooden is the first name that comes to mind.

Chandler's a 5.

Gooden seems like a sensible pick if the report has any merit.

Tomorrow morning would be nice timing for 'Sheed to be bought out from a scheduling standpoint.  Not so nice from an "If Cleveland were to get him" standpoint.

Is Gooden really more higher-profile than Joe Smith though?

  • Yup
Gooden's groin needs to be bought out.  Right now I'd be very wary of adding him to a contender if he gets bought out.
Yup

  • The good ole days.
I would have my money on Sheed as well.

I don't like Gooden's game much.

Sheed's actually a better choice, IMHO.

If it's Sheed I really hope the Celtics would make a run at him. Eh, never mind, the Cavs have way more cash than Boston to offer him. Maybe if the Cavs got Sheed that would leave us with an opportunity to land Smith because the Cavs couldn't afford to pay them both.

Hey BT,i had heard rumors about Sheed a few months ago going to the Cavs, maybe its true.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!

That would be terrifying!  If Sheed were getting bought out I wish we had SOMETHING to sign him with... darn.

Although, despite how we feel on this blog, 'more high profile than Joe Smith' could describe a lot of people.

I laughed while reading that.  Thanks, illantari.
