I ask this question in terms of gambling on Joe Smith getting bought out, not simply wanting Scot Pollard outright.

In that light i ask:

How much of an upgrade is Mikki Moore over Pollard?

At least with Pollard I think we can feel good that he would bring more toughness and size to the front court. I could definitely see throwing him as Varejao to neutralize his pest factor or Pachulia or a host of other backup bigs that we might face in the playoffs...

So, i'm not arguing for Pollard. I'm just saying let's roll the dice on Smith and use someone like Pollard as the backup plan as opposed to rushing and picking up Moore.

Pollard is done, and I dont see how you could have confidence in a guy who was injured pretty much the entire season when he was with us...confident in what? that he'd he make us laugh on planet pollard? how would it be any better to sign pollard instead of 'rushing' and signing moore?

I agree that the Celtics should not rush.

While I'm not a huge fan of Moore's, one thing he has going for him is health.  Pollard, on the other hand, does not.

Yeah, I agree. Theoretically, an healthy Pollard is the superior player for our needs, I think, but an healthy Pollard is basically an oxymoron these days and we don't even know if he's in shape.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
this is like the equivalent of asking "would you like to die by being set on fire or by drowning?"
"It was easier to know it than to explain why I know it."

I thought we heard earlier in the season that he was looking to sign on with a team.

anyway, certainly we would have to know if he wants to play and would have to know what his medical situation was in order to even consider it....

but if he does check out, I thought that the little he did play last year showed that he could at the very least add toughness. the guy bangs when he is out there.

again, AJ, I'm not suggesting we target Moore. I'm suggesting we target Smith.

Which form of death are you associating with getting Smith?

Mikki Moore is much better than Scot Pollard, not even close.

winsomme, interesting idea, and I feel like you are being misunderstood.

You propose the following two options:
(1) sign Pollard to a 10 day contract and cross our fingers on Joe Smith
(2) sign Moore

Another way to think about it is the potential upsides and downsides:

Upside from (1) is Joe Smith; Upside from (2) is Mikki Moore.  Downside from (1) is being stuck with Scott Pollard and not Mikki Moore; downside from (2) is being stuck with Mikki Moore and not Joe Smith.
Celtics fan for life.

And let's say Smith doesn't get bought out, then what?  I'm guessing he will, but for safety's sake, suppose he doesn't & the C's never put the bid in for Moore?  What would the team do then?

If Pollard is in condition, why isn't his name out there? You have to work with what is available.

I prefer Pollard IF he is healthy.  I like his toughness.
