defensive wing
length/post player
shooting wing
backup point

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Nice topic, shoulda done a poll.

1)Defensive oriented center thats 6'10 plus and can hit the occasional jumper so someone else (Powe) can be in the lane.

2) Wing defender that defend big 3's and big 2's, and also hit an outside shot

To me those are our 2 needs.

1. Defensive wing
2. Size at Center
3. Back Up Point

1. Especially with Tony down, we need a wing player that can come in and shut down a good scorer. Posey did a good job last year.
Possible Trade: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ah497t

2. POB is wayyyyyyyy to skinny to give quality minutes and bang with opposing centers

3. With Cassell gone (maybe coming back) we need a veteren pg. Rondo is great, but Eddie is not a true point and Gabe is unproven

1-  Cut down on turnovers
2-  add a 6'10"+ backup Center
3-  re-claim Sam Cassell off waivers

With Scal playing the way he is, I see no need for a defensive wing.  Scal fills that role nicely.  House can backup the 2 and play the 1 in our crunch-time lineup where Paul brings the ball up anyways.

I think our team is in pretty good shape quite honestly, and it wouldn't bother me too much if we do nothing other than re-claim Sam.

I think the biggest need is a backup wing.

Tony's injury puts a huge amount of uncertainty on that position for the playoffs.

Agreed.

Me too and it's not even close. The idea of having House, Scalabrine and the rookies backing up the wings is just too horrific.

1. Someone to replace PJ (a 6'10" of better back-up C)

2. Someone to replace Posey (a wing defender)

Point: the notion that internal development could compensate for the loss of our two best bench players didn't work out.

1. Backup Wing
2. Backup Big
3. Backup PG/SG

We need a defender at the wing in the worst way with TA out. Right now we're going to play PP too many minutes, have to play Ray at the 3, and extend Rondo's minutes with House at the 2 as well to cover for the injury.

Haha.  While I'll wish him the best while he's here, until it's formalized I'm not going to advocate for Starbury.  He's one of my least favorite players in the NBA.

My thoughts exactly Fafnir, TP!

IMO the main role Posey played last year was defensive wing guy off the bench --- to give Pierce/R. Allen some rest. Esp. for guys like Joe Johnson, Lebron, Kobe... I was OK (tenuously OK) with Tony Allen giving that role a shot this year when we lost Posey, but now we've lost TAllen until the playoffs and this makes me very nervous.

Even if we add a Quinton Ross, a Jared Dudley, someone who can score a couple baskets and hustle, srap, and fight on the defensive end.

A close second is a desire for another big man. I've always believed that you can never have enough legit bigs --- DET has done a great job over the last several years (and SA to a lesser degree) of stockpiling bigs in a "break glass in case of emergency" way. Most aren't world beaters, but guys you can depend on for 10 mins in a tight playoff game.

Luckily it sounds like Joe Smith might fill that role for us this year (then maybe stick around for another year in 2009-10?).

It frustrates me a little that Ainge has waited this long to fill these 2 needs -- which have been evident since training camp to just about everyone. Hard to complain with a 44-11 record, but I hope Ainge doesn't think we can add guys of PJ Brown/Joe Smith's caliber every year *after* the deadline.

1) Playable big man
2) A backup PG.  (hopefully someone with size)
3) A defensive wing with range on his shot.
