Horry is a vet presence and does add range for his size BUT what does he add that scal doesn't have  :-\ honestly.  Scal still can defend, Horry's legs are gone just like sam i am (being blown by)
Pollard if healthy for league min. is interesting.....
POB I doubt will help this year (see end of next year though) so we need length AND backup sf, TA is too short, scal ok, walker unproven.

I know Scal has played very solid this year , but who would you rather have as an option off your bench in a clutch situation, Scal who everyone wanted gone last year, or Robert Horry a 7 time NBA Champion who has hit clutch shot after clutch shot throughout the years?

We could actually use both Scal and Horry it doesnt have to be one or the other

Scal can be used defensive assigments against more Perimeter orianted PF's we might face that Leon or Big Baby can't stay with

Horry can be used at end of the quarter offensive situations , if the team needs a offensive spark off the bench , and in clutch shot making possesions .

I just think he would really bolster the second unit .

New second Unit

PG: Rondo
SG: House
SF: TA or Scal
PF: Powe
 C: Horry

I particularly like this 2nd unit because

1) you have spacing on the floor with House and Horry being three point speacialists

2) Leon Powe is freed up to work on the low post because Horry brings the other Big man away from the basket to guard him.

3) With two deadly 3 point shooters in House and Horry on the floor TA and Rondo will have all kinds of lanes to drive down and finish or drive and kick to House and Horry

He only needs to give us 5-10 Minutes a night in the Playoffs and hit some shots . We now have a free roster spot with Cassell gone , it just makes to much sense not to IMO...

My guess is that if Sam isn't here, Horry isn't coming, either.  Of course, Sam can still re-join the team.

Now with the news of TA being out until the playoffs, Horry would really help. Who is going to play the backup SF spot when Pierce needs a rest?

If they sign Horry, they can slide Scal over to the backup SF positions , with Powe, BBD , and Horry playing backup PF and C positions .

New 2nd unit possibilities

PG: Rondo or Pruitt
SG: House / Pruitt / Walker
SF: Scal  / Walker
PF: Powe  / BBD   / Horry
 C: Horry / BBD

Horry is at least 6'10 which is a few inches taller then BBD or Powe. He would at least add a little bit of size off the bench  and he has strength he is not a bean pole or anything ...

I understand what you are saying but in terms of the OTHER end of the court, Horry at C is downright frightening.  James has hit many a big shot in his day (and still can) but when we need a big shot we already have PP, RA, Eddie all who can do other things besides hit the 3.  Of course now that TA is gone 'til playoffs maybe your idea of having both Scal & Horry makes sense.  I for one was a guy who said w/ posey gone (and he should have been for the $ and length) we would need scal.  I officially vote for give walker some sf minutes, guy will bring it every night with effort much like Leon.

I've been intrigued by Horry too, but I do have to ask myself what can he really do that Scal can't at this point?  Maybe he hits the three at a slightly higher rate, but unless his legs have been rejuvenated, he's probably not playing better defense.

I suppose you could make the argument that he'd be valuable down by 2 or 3 with a 20 seconds left, but you also have to ask yourself whether we'd be in that position if someone else was playing instead of Horry.

As for the business of "second units," we have to start getting away from that.  There's only 27 games left and we can muck through with the bench we have.  The bigger question is can 3-4 bench players emerge from either the current bench or elsewhere to compliment the starters, who should all be playing more minutes come playoff time.
