I feel really bad for him. Good player when healthy and a nice guy. Now he's going to be vilified in Philly.

And no one does "villifying" better than Philly fans (not that we're saints here in Boston)
Yup

Is this it for Elton Brand the all-star?

Remember it was only 3 seasons ago that stepped it up to the potential superstar level, averaging 24 and 10. He regressed a little the next year and then got injured the following season. Now this year, he's done after a very subpar beginning of the season. As SW noted, it may have been a combination of recovering from an injury and playing for a system that he wasn't comfortable in.

He's only 29 years old and this year and last year were his only significant injuries. Presumably if he can recover and find a better suited team, he can recover to his pre-injury form and have a nice end to his career.

Wow. Wasn't there a report just yesterday that he was progressing well, getting better?

Considering how well they are playing without him, I think it is a smart move to get the surgery now.

When healthy, he is still one of the best big men in the league, and I think with some tweaking of the roster this summer, he can be the key piece to turn that roster from a 6-8 seed into a top 3 or 4 team in the East, and competing for a title.  They need to make the right moves this summer, but the potential is there.

Think Philly, GS and LAC are all wishing for do-over buttons?

Yep, with him healthy they are one player away from making the next step, not a title contender as everyone was picking them, but a decent team.

Quite an overreaction.

feel bad for the guy but he really might be one of the most over-rated players around.

not to kick someone while their down. I always thought he was really OVERRATED.

Gimmme KG, NOWITZKI, AMARE, JEFFERSON, OKAFOR, BOOZER....he was maybe a top 10 for PFs, but some people think when healthy he is top 10 in the NBA. NO.....WAY!

I always thought that too.  I remember there were some that wanted to trade Pierce for him a few years back.
