I predict that the largest trade in history will be topped this year

for reference, here's the current largest trade...

Quote
August 2, 2005: MIAMI HEAT acquires F Antoine Walker from the BOSTON CELTICS and G Jason Williams, F James Posey and G Andre Emmett from the MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES and the draft rights to C Roberto Duenas from the NEW ORLEANS HORNETS in a five-team trade that sent G-F Eddie Jones to Memphis, F Rasual Butler to New Orleans, a 2006 second-round draft pick, a conditional second-round draft pick, F Qyntel Woods and the draft rights to Albert Miralles to Boston; The UTAH JAZZ acquired C Greg Ostertag from Memphis; Boston acquired C Curtis Borchardt from Utah and G Raul Lopez from Memphis; New Orleans acquired G Kirk Snyder from Utah.
I get a sense of sarcasm there.

It may not have been the biggest but definitely helped get Miami the championship with 2 key pieces in Antoine and Posey.

not to get sidetracked from the topic, but I don't recall who we got with those picks-->did we move them in a trade or did we move our own and use those for picking up Reed or Gomes or Powe?

Those draft picks were moved on to other teams, the 2006 pick to New Orleans for Dan Dickau, and the later pick to the Timberwolves in the trade that landed us Wally, Kandiman, Dwayne Jones, and their first rounder (which we sent back in the KG trade).

The picks eventually became 2006 second round pick (at #56) Edin Bavcic, and 2008 second round pick (at #31) Nikola Pekovic.

How did I find that out? By this handy little database, the creators of which should receive a Nobel Prize, knighthood, and/or sainthood:

http://www.prosportstransactions.com/basketball/Search/Search.php

Plug in Antoine Walker for the name, and then work from there.
Thanks for the heads-up.  much appreciated!!

SCARY THOUGHT ALERT:

Cavs Trade: Wally, JJ Hickson, 2009 1st rd, 2011 1st rd

Don't do it, Danny Ferry!

That would be a killer trade for Cleveland! Yikes. Phoenix could very well bite on that... although i think they're looking for something a little closer to the lottery when it comes to a draft pick.

I was hoping to see some Celtic trade deadline predictions. I guess if you want something, you got to do it yourself. So here goes:

Tony Allen, Leon Powe, Scalabrine, and Bill Walker

go to Oklahoma City for

Joe Smith and Damien Wilkins

Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

This may be the first reasonable trade involving the C's that I have seen on this blog for years! Sounds appealing for both teams. Boston probably has to throw in cash or a future 2nd.

Thanks. I really think something like this might happen and if the C's pick up Marbury; Who knows? :)

No offense, but, OKC has zero incentive to make that trade.

And, it's been suggested on here before.
God bless and good night!

Amare is one of the biggest egos in the league.  He drove Marion out of PHX.  He calls himself "Black Jesus"

Unfortunately, LeBron is the messiah.  We are all witnesses to his greatness.  LeBron has a huge head (literally...roids?)  I just do not see that dynamic working out long term.

So basically it's Amare for Hickson?

Well it depends on how highly you (Pho) would value the money you'd save. Its also 30 million or so of Robert Saver's money, plus two picks and a prospect that is shaping up pretty well. If you look at it in terms of talent PHO is the obvious loser, but if you look at it from the owners perspective it might seem desirable.

Smith and Wilkins are not part of OKC's long term plans. They get to nibble on a couple young guys who hustle and bring energy - Powe is a solid backup 4. Walker has nice potential. Tony Allen will at least bring energy and defense. Scal is a throw in with only 1 year left on his deal.

Young locker rooms can benefit greatly by getting players from a title team.

OKC saves 300,000 this season, and also could be given cash to offset the extra 2.5 mill they will be paying Allen/Scal in place of Wilkins next year.

In the end its a swap of fairly mediocre talent both ways.

Nice job explaining your rationale...but I can't say I agree.

Joe Smith, even at his age, is the best player in this trade.

Tony Allen is worthless as a player, and his skill set is redundant in OKC.  Scal's veteran presence only goes so far, but I do agree he's of some value in terms of clearing money off the books.

Leon Powe has had half a season of effective play in his career.  I don't agree that he's a solid backup 4.  He's on the fringe of being one, but that outcome is debatable based on my own observation.

And Walker is nothing but potential at this point.  I think he's worth more to us than to OKC.  Plus, between Durant and Green, Walker would not see the light of day over there.

Basically, I expect them to get more for Smith, if he's even on the market.
God bless and good night!

I'm sure they'll look to move him. He's gone in 2 months anyway. Might as well try to get something back, even if it is just $ or a second rounder.

I agree that they could do better. At the deadline though, they might be willing to go for the cash.
