would you sign Scal to the veteran minimum after his current monsterosity of a contract is over?
Depends on who else is available to fill his role.
but its defenitly not as insane a thought as some people would think.
I am a big Scal basher, and can admit that much of it derives from the silly fact that his contract is idiotic. It's small-minded and trite, but it is what it is. However, it's not like the guy can't tie his shoes. He can (at times) play not even average, but above average defense. However, other times he's caught terribly flat footed and inconsistent (like the bad pass in the first half where it bounced twice before it got to the Net in the corner... Scal watched it the whole way and couldn't disrupt it.). He can shoot sometimes, but lacks the confidence to shoot consistently.
Bottom line: He's a fit on any NBA team for the right price and in the right role. Starter in any way shape or form is not the right role, but there are 10 other guys under contract too. There are a number of players who can do what Scal does better then Scal, so it depends on which of them is available. If he's truly the best option to sign as a 9th or 10th man, then go for it. It's not stupid to have him under veteran minimum control, but $15 mil is truly insane.
