For the Lazy readers out there.
Quote
One potential solution to Boston's perimeter-shooting problems is languishing in Toronto: forward Jason Kapono. Consider this deal: Boston sends Brian Scalabrine (who has one year remaining on his contract), Eddie House (who has a player option for 2009-10) and a conditional draft pick to Toronto for Kapono. The trade frees the Raptors from Kapono's contract (which runs through the '10-11 season) and gives them coveted cap space to re-sign Chris Bosh in '10 and acquire some talent to play around him.

I like the trade

I'm not a fan of House, and can't stand Scalabrine.

More burn for Pruitt opens a roster spot, and no more Scalabrine Chants.

how about:

BOS gets:

Kapono

TOR gets:

Scals
Cassell (who is waived and comes back to the Cs)
Giddens

Does that work salary-wise? Clearly TOR wants to move salary in order to keep Bosh.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I'd do the trade, but I wouldn't be able to look Eddie House in the eye afterwards. Or Brian Scalabrine.

Kapono is just a taller version of House.  That's why he's on the Toronto bench.

A taller House is a better House.

The only thing about it is the salary.

It's basically the same money they weren't willing to give Posey.

I say keep House. his lack of ballhandling didn't hurt us in the playoffs last year. actually him coming back into the lineup was a huge boost to our bench.

i say try and keep Eddie in any deal with TOR. Then our bench is:

Eddie
TA
Kapono
BBD
Powe

and still look for a vet big like we did with PJ. I think that bench is way more flexible with the addition of Kapono. Would feel bad for Scals...and would worry about Kapono's D.

I'd love to have Kapono on our team but he has a hefty contract for next 4-5 years. Wouldn't that effect our ability to resign Rondo and Powe?

No thanks.  His shooting is not worth what it would take to get him.

i think it's only three years....two after this one, but the key for TOR is 2010, so getting this off their books would help them...

Let's go easy on the feeling bad for Brian Scalabrine... The man has taken a very hefty contract for his limited skill set and accepted every penny. There is no way I could possibly feel bad for Scal after he got cult status, got paid extremely well, and rode everyone to a freakin ring... He's worn out his welcome to me. It's not cute or fun anymore, lets free up his roster spot and get someone who can play now that our bench is in rough shape.

That said, no on Kapono haha... I don't like that he's just a taller House and we'd lose the energy that House brought on defense last year that hopefully he can find again.
"Let me call him," Floyd said.

The man shook his head. "O.J. doesn't give out his cell," he said. "He'll call you."

you don't think we could get him without giving up Eddie? why would TOR even want Eddie?

Let me get this straight: the same people who think that giving Posey the contract he was asking are okay with trading for Kapono?  :o

Posey over Kapono....not even hint of a doubt. But that said i really think we need that shooting from a tall wing.
