Well, I wonder how Earl Watson feels about this?

Atkins and a 1st rounder to OKC for Johan Petro and a 2nd rounder (both picks in the upcoming draft).

Another coup for Sam Presti in OKC. Chucky's contract is not fully guaranteed beyond this season, so OKC sacrifices very little of their cap space next year.

Edit: ESPN is also reporting the trade, with a little more info. Denver apparently sent some cash considerations as well.

He feels like he wants to be a Celtic.

Hmmm. I wonder what the possibility of a buyout would be for Atkins? It's a lock that OKC would waive him before his salary for next year became guaranteed.

Perhaps he could convince them that he'd like to join a contender this season, and negotiate a release.

I'd take Pruit and Cassell over Atkins.  Plus the guy is never healthy.

I don't think Atkins is an upgrade over Eddie House ... I've limited interest in Atkins.

I'd rather give Pruitt some time and see what he has about him.

I wouldn't mind ol' Chuck for his stabilizing purposes, but I agree Pruitt needs some play before they go signing a new player.  Also, Chucky isn't the answer for our lack of scoring off the bench... or our size, for that matter (which I think is FAR more important that another backup PG).

I have a feeling this doesn't effect Watson at all.  This trade was all about saving Denver money, and getting them another big man in the process.  I wouldn't be surprised if Atkins is bought out.

The nice thing about this deal though, is that it removes Denver from the bidding for Joe Smith, and perhaps, it makes OKC consider taking less than a first rounder for Smith, now that they were able to get one from Denver.

Can see Chucky being bought out and signing with the Lakers if Farmar can't get back in time for the playoffs.
