You keep using that word... I do not think it means what you think it means.

Look, the C's lost to the Bricks, the Cavs lost to the Wiz, and I occasionally can't do basic division.  It happens to the best of us.

Even if it were possible to look at this team objectively without the championship I still can't see where they are a disappointment. Earlier the starters stumbling and the bench was clicking then the bench slumped and the started held the fort it was inevitable they'd be a period where most people would be in a funk at the same time. They're having a issues mainly on the road. Last season their road woes showed up in the playoffs at least this season they have lots of time to work on it once they get that consistency on the road they'll be fine.

This team is still reeling from the Laker loss.

I don't think they've dealt with it well at all.

Do you really think a Dec. loss to the Lakers is going to send a championship team from last year in a slump? They would have never won a championship if they did not recover from losses in the playoffs. I think it is just coincidence.

You are giving the Lakers way to much credit.

The loss to Detroit in December of last season had no such effect and that was a big game too.

well, according to some here, this season changed when portland had 6 players on the floor and still received credit for that basket...

apparently the celtics themselves still haven't gotten over that one yet.

Yeah, this is something I dont agree with whatsoever. I think anyone who says this is still reeling from the lakers loss themselves

It looks like the effort hasn't been the same since the Lakers loss- there seems to be less motivation due to the winning streak being over.  I'm not worried at all. Long term it just won't work treating each game like game 7 of the finals.  I think this slump is totally natural.

I think its more that they are still reeling from the combination of the win streak ending, the lakers loss, the holidays in general, and their tough schedule so far.  It is a perfect storm to produce a tired and lackadasical team.  It will pass.

Wow... when I saw the title to this post I almost crapped my pants in anger.  As far as I'm concerned the Celtics are 1 season together and have 1 championship.  How that qualifies as a dissapointment I do not know... how could you be better?

The OP is clearly the same guy who threw up his hands and said we were "done for" when the Hawks took us to 7.

The missing peices from the bench is disappointing.

Losing to the Lakers is always disappointing.

But the team in not a disappointment.

This is the regualr season.  Celtics do not need to have the best record, just a top 2 seed.

If they get knocked out in the playoffs, then this team (this years team) is a disappointment.

Don't minimize the importance of that play. That was a critical basket in a close game that 1) got us into a bad head space, at least for that one game and 2) cost us points that at the end, made a huge difference. It wasn't a huge deal, and it wasn't the end of the world, but it was an important play.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.
