I've never gotten the impression that Buckets is a bad guy, per se. You don't hear other players ripping him. But, it's pretty clear that he's a bit of a space cadet. IIRC, Doc's criticism seemed to be that Ricky just wasn't professional in his approach to the game. He strikes me as someone that would be an absolute BLAST to hang out with (seriously; is there anyone in the league that would be more fun to go clubbing with than Buckets?). But, he doesn't seem like someone that you would really count on. Basically the antithesis to the guys who are currently leading the squad. Do you really trust him in a playoff situation? You trust him on the defensive end?
As to the whole "he's never been on a good squad with a good leader..."; he's a talented enough player where he SHOULD be able to show some leadership himself. Maybe you can't blame him for how poorly his teams in Cleveland and Miami and here have played, but is it purely co-incidental that he's never played on a good squad? When Miami was making up excuses for why every decent player on the team was hurt, the most blatant tank-job in league history, was it a co-incidence that they let Ricky play 82 games?
Plus, it seems pretty clear that the last few years in Miami Beach haven't done him any favors; Ricky is D-U-N.
I propse that the League would come up with a new year-end award, the "Ricky Buckets Award" for "Best Player On A 20-Win Team." Maybe that could be an ESPY.
