Take it up with the Old Man!  Actually I made this mistake last year.  The draft order is determined based on regular season standings.  So I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt that he thinks the Celts will win it all with the 2nd best record in the league.

All things being consifered, moving up one slot is the least we can do for Mr. McHale, Big Al & friends

I can't speak for his dad, but draft places are ranked by reverse order of regular season records, so I wouldn't jump into that conclusion.

This is surely a very dumb question, but what are "hardships" in this context?

Re Europeans, I can't see Aleksandrov going that high. He'd need to show lots of improvement this season.

I believe those are guys he thinks will come out early or where they'll be picked if they do "declare hardship" and forgo their education in exchange for legally earning an income playing basketball.

Can't say the talent coming out this spring blows my mind.

IMO, Not a bad draft for the Celtics to be missing a first rounder (at least initially.)

Interesting that he has Nemanja Aleksandrov going so high.  He has been a bit of a binky of mine for the last couple of years.  I was always intrigued by him after Ford built him up as a possible #1 pick before he blew out his knee and dropped off the radar(and the lackluster season he had before that didn't help much either I don't think).  Then when he played in the Hoop Summit a couple of years ago, I was very impressed with him.  He clearly wasn't back to 100% yet with his athleticism, but he showed that he is still a very fluid player, with good instincts, and he even mixed it up down low.  Of course he seemed to disapear for periods or time before taking the game over for other stints (which is one of the knocks against him), but the potential was clearly still there.

Of course the only other two players to catch my eye like he did in highschool all-star games are Rajon Rondo and Josh McRoberts...so take it however you like.

  • Welcome to the Loud House
I am surprised that he has Paul Harris coming out of Syracuse and not Jonny Flynn or Eric Devendorf on that list.

Devendorf may not be drafted but will be considered judging on how he looked last year and the beginning of practice this year.

Jonny should (sadly) be ready to go this year and most likely will.

Paul is a first round talent but also has a family and I would assume he would want to graduate as a backup plan. He is also more of a 3 than a 2 position wise

Ricky Rubio #1 - No doubt he's the best prospect in that draft. I really like Psycho T as well.

Is the NBA the only pro American league that does this or am I just way too honed in to the NFL draft?

Either way, makes me feel better that your dad is still bleeding green through and through. :D

Color me unimpressed with the draft that is coming up and unless someone really catches my eye this NCAA season my guess is after the Celtics win it all again I might have to just vacation right around draft time so as to not waste my time with the trade proposals and crazy stuff that will come up then. No one other than the kid from Spain(Rubio) really generates any interest from me and even then I'm just going by what I have read on some of the mock draft sites.

Nick,  I was corrected on that very issue last year, and was pretty certain I was right ( I was not ).  The NFL definitely does it.  Not sure about the NHL or MLB.

3 things i noticed...

Your old man doesn't seem to be very high on Danny Green or Dominic James...i feel like both of those guys have late first/early second round potential.  Green obviously hasn't been consistent enough to make the 1st round boards (yet), but this kid has an all around game that few collegiates can match.  He can do it all w/ the ball - can drive and pull up from distance; hits his free-bee's, plays defense (threat to block and steal), and is very efficient even when given limited minutes.  I'm very high on this kid.

As far as Dominic James goes, he did have an off year last year, but if he can continue to improve his 3pt shooting he could be a big steal late in the draft.  Has a skill set similar to Jarryd Bayless (minus the deep touch).

Patrick Mills is also another guy who i think could vault up the board by season's end.  He proved he could run a team against MUCH better competition in the Olympics.  Playing at St. Mary's will hurt his cause, but teams know what he's capable of.  he's got a ton of confidence.

Also, nice to see your pops throw a UMass guy in at the end.  It's really amazing to think of how much Chris Lowe has progressed.
