From Rob Bradford's blog:

Quote
WEEI.com and FoxSports.com’s Jeff Goodman is reporting that Danny Ainge, who received a promotion to President of Basketball Operations Tuesday, has been given a contract extension which will lengthen his deal until the conclusion of the 2011-12 season. It adds three years to a contract which would have expired after this season. — Rob Bradford (Oct. 28, 9:28 a.m.)

I think it goes, without question, that this move was a no-brainer.

Very well deserved Danny! Thanks for bringing us back into the limelight. 1st Championship in 22 years, one of the favorites to do it again. Can't argue the results...

He also was promoted to "President of Basketball Operations" (which to be honest, I thought was his title before).

Hmm... I think maybe it's too soon. Let's see if Scal can contribute in this season play-offs in a meaningful way before talking about retiring his number.  ;D

Now, seriously, agreed, time to 44 to go up there.

Thank you Danny and Congrats ot him!

Thinking about titles is always better then thinking about draft position and the latter seems like another lifetime ago- thankfully!

I'm pretty sure I vocally advocated the "body of work" argument as a reason to wait on retiring Ainge's number. I still think they should wait awhile (perhaps until the big three finish their run) so as not to distract from the team accomplishments, but at this point, I agree that there should be no questions about retiring #44. It's merely a question of "when" and not "if."

We criticized him for not getting anything done/right. And then he got something done and he did it right. Good job Ainge, well deserved.

Wasn't president of Basketball operations Red's Old title? It be kinda nice if they retired that in honor of Red.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
this is nice but it's all window dressing...the only thing that matters is the contract extension, not the "title."  danny is the chief decision-maker of this franchise, so they can call him general manager, team president, or the wizard and it doesn't really matter at the end of the day.
