...since the NBA All-Star weekend was hosted by Boston. Phoenix gets it twice in 13 years when places like Portland (NBA team since 1970) have never had it and the most decorated City of Boston goes 44 years without hosting it.

Multiple hosts since 1964:

Philadelphia x3
Los Angeles x3 (Plus once in Oakland, once in San Diego and once in San Francisco)
Phoenix x3
New York x2
Houston x2
Atlanta x2
Seattle x2
Chicago x2

Ahhh, but it was here 4 out of the first 14 years!

Didn't Walter Brown invent the game?
Yup

Regardless, I think the selection has been stupid (Phoenix x3 California x6). Boston deserves the All-Star game soon, hopefully 2010.

I agree with maestro.
There weren't lot of teams
back then so it was "easier"
for Boston to host the event.

Dang it, let's start a petition!  ;)

Boston will get it soon.

Part of it is that there has been a building boom of new arenas throughout the NBA and I wouldn't be surprised if some of these came with a promise to host the NBA All Star Game.  (Baseball has incorporated this policy a lot, lately.)

Celtics have now been in the New Garden for 13 years now so they are definitely due to host the game.  I'm a bit surprised they didn't get one back in the mid-late '90s when it first opened.  The Bruins got the NHL All Star Game almost immediately.

I was thinking, it would be ideal if they gave it to Portland (or Sacramento or Toronto) in 2010 and Boston in 2011 for the 60th anniversary of the All-Star game.

Agreed, that sounds like a good reason... & Boston is overdue for an all star game :(
