its OK...... but logo's hardly last very long with a new team and the letters are so plain probably gonna be updated later or added on to
"Bird with the pass through the legs of Sikma!"

For the record, I think it is a terrible logo. Hopefully it is just a secondary logo and not the primary. If it is the primary, then it is by far the worst in the NBA and maybe even in pro sports.

How do you market 'Thunder'?

It's not easy.  Here are some of the approaches my local AA baseball team, the Trenton Thunder, have taken:

In other words, they've pretty much embraced lightning, rather than thunder.  That makes some sense.

Here are some additional logos, from various sports leagues:

It's looking like the two most popular choices are either an association with lighting, or with Norse gods.  Regardless of which way OKC goes, it's pretty clear that almost all the above logos are substantially better than the one that they apparently chose.

Not to be Mr. Wizard or Bill Nye, but thunder is the sound of lightning, so they are inseparable. Lightning is just a charge distribution through the air. It's not really matter itself. It's just the glow of the air (which is matter) that is heated by the charge exchanges. The thunder comes from vibrations of the electrons hitting the air, as well as the expansion of the air from the heat. At least that's what I remember from Physics...

Well, right.  I think we're all pretty clear that thunder is a sound, rather than a tangible object.  It's also pretty difficult to embrace a sound through visual form, which is why they need to go with the more visible lightning.

(As for thunder and lightning being inseparable...  what about flash / heat lighting?  Is thunder really thunder if you can't hear it?  Something to ponder...)
